VIDEO: Mazda racing liveries, animated

Mazda UK has released a new video called “Our Greatest Motorsport Liveries” to honor its 100th Anniversary.  The short animated movie goes through several of the company’s famous racing colorways, varying from the Group B RX-7 to the renowned (ha!) Le Mans-winning 787B.

There are some glaring absences, such as the Marathon de la Route Cosmo Sport, RX-7s that won the 24 Hours of Daytona and the Spa 24 Hours, or any number of Bonneville speed record cars. It’s a bit Euro-centric, but we’re glad that it included the WRC 323 GTX and BTCC Xedos 6. The accompanying rotary soundtrack doesn’t hurt either.

I wish they would bring back the blue+white. The white+black on the Idemitsu car in IMSA was a step in the right direction, too many prototype racers are red+black.

Odd that they listed the 323 GTX as a 1986 yet the shape (and livery) depicted is quite clearly the BG chassis, which debuted three years later…

    What!?!..no Global Cup Miata???
