VIDEO: Hear the Nissan Fairlady 240ZG tear around Fuji Speedway

Fans at least year’s NISMO Festival were treated to the spectacle of Nissan’s historic racing machines tearing around the legendary Fuji Speedway. Though we were able to share photos of the event, there’s nothing like being there and hearing the cars actually running at full tilt. Well you’re in luck, because Nissan has released on-board footage of their HS30 240ZG doing exactly that.

This 240ZG actually runs a rare LY28 crossflow head and triple Solex 50s, good for about 300 horsepower. Because of its scarcity, the head itself sells for at least $10,000 if you can even find one. Although on the Fuji straight modern SuperGT R35s fly past the 240ZG like it’s standing still, the mechanical rawness of the engine’s wail is something that’s still unmatched.

If you just have the audio without identifiers, I’d swear that was part of the soundtrack to that French mini-film “It was a rendezvous.”

Takes some serious courage to take a car with no cage out in a field full of SuperGTs. Amazing.

Enjoyable sounds, even with the miss shift and short shifting going on. More of a rolling exposition of the car while easing around the track with one eye ahead and the other watching vastly faster cars coming up.

Yeah, was a great sounding car but a pity the driver was clearly ensuring he wasn’t an obstacle for the SuperGT stuff – would be even better to hear the car properly wrung out, like that Best Motoring vid of the Hakosuka.

You can just HEAR that this car is capable of oh so much more. Yes the short-shifting, constant eye on beasts in the mirror, and probable sense of scooting around in a priceless racecar seems to be holding this thing back.
