About a month ago, alternative R&B singer The Weeknd posted a photo of himself standing in the desert with an FC Mazda RX-7 in the background. Yesterday, that video, called “Party Monster,” dropped.
As we mentioned before, the FC, built by Jim Le of Buddha Concepts Design, is an unexpected by interesting choice. If you can get through the video without a PSE seizure, you’ll see that not only does the Weeknd drive the RHD rotary but that he’s getting chased by a woman in a yellow Lamborghini Murciélago.
The singer is known for referencing typical rich boy supercars like the Lamborghini Aventador SV, Bentley Mulsanne, and McLaren P1 in past songs, so putting himself in the FC is a departure for The Weeknd. Perhaps it indicates that pop-up headlights and pistonless engines are gaining cred in the music world. In any case, it’s great to see well-built 1980s Mazdas get some exposure.
