Watching a Toyota Crown get lavishly detailed is extremely satisfying

Owning a black car can be a blessing and a curse. A sleek, perfectly paint-corrected and waxed example can give an elegant car such as this MS60 Crown a menacing yakuza vibe. On the other hand, it’s also one wrong wipe away from swirls and spiderwebs to interrupt the gleaming finish. The painstaking level of hard work and attention to to detail that goes into restoring such a finish is captured in this video by Hong Kong detailing shop Contempo Concept.

The Crown begins its pampered bath with its tired hubcaps being removed. It is subsequently sprayed with a soap foam gun and gently washed and clayed in straight motions to minimize swirls and scratches. Its steel wheels and hubcaps are given the same treatment, followed up by a quick pass with a rotary polisher.

The body is massaged with expert-level technique; buffing paint with a rotary polisher can lead to disaster in the wrong hands. Luckily, such is not the case with these detailers, as the results speak for themselves. A ceramic coating is applied, giving the paint a resilient, protective layer, simultaneously sealing the hard work.  As the impurities are polished from the brightwork, we see the paint reflecting the shop lights with nary a swirl in sight.
