These Boots Are Made for Motoring: Nancy Sinatra's Datsun 1600 Roadster

Did you know Nancy Sinatra drove a Datsun? A 1966 1600 Sports roadster, to be exact. It was a gift from her guitarist Lee Hazlewood when their song “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” hit #1 on the pop charts in 1966.

An operative recently saw this car for auction in Minneapolis, and reports that the paint is of questionable quality but the interior is clean. It went unsold at $8000, illustrating the conundrum with cars owned by famous people. While still for sale, this isn’t a “Kidney, Anyone?” post because we don’t feel that proximity to celebrity should command a higher price. Like Ronald Reagan’s Subaru Brat or Cindy McCain’s S13, it’s an interesting part of history, but the premium is something for Sinatra fans, not car enthusiasts.

However, we must say, that red cabin and Thunder Black combo looks as stylish as Ms. Sinatra did in her go-go boots. The lady had taste. But the roadster isn’t her only relationship with J-tin. Nancy SInatra also sang the title song to the 007 movie You Only Live Twice — which featured the famous custom Toyota 2000GT convertible and an S40 Crown — probably the best Bond theme of them all.

License to Kill was the best theme. Ever.

This car was also at an ICA auction in Gilbert, AZ about 6 months ago where it got virtually no bids. The paint is indeed in bad shape. Completely crazed all over. It was being auctioned as completely restored, but if it is restored it was done a good 20 years ago. It’s not an $8K roadster, in my opinion. Not sure how big of a pull anyone would think Nancy Sinatra is, but for me it’s not enough to pay way too much for the car. The seller needs to be a little more realistic, I think…

    A view to a kill FTW !
