Rumors of Datsun comeback comes back

It seems like every few months now a new article is published claiming the return of the Datsun brand. It’s the same old story. It would be Nissan’s bargain-price brand, likely for developing markets, and not in the US. The last spike of interest in this topic occurred in July. Another inning took place in 2008.

Each time, the automotive media collectively takes the news nugget and passes it along like a cursed monkey paw, until its sheer prevalence gives the story credibility. For this round of specious wildfire, it looks like Auto Express was the one who flicked the cigarette butt out the window. They’re not exactly known for judicious use of the “publish” button, so yeah, lets not hold our breaths for this one.

Seriously, Datsun could be a rebadge for the Dacia brand.

“The new machines will most likely be launched as part of the ‘Power88’ plan, which will see the car maker release a new model every six weeks for the next six years.”

This ‘Power 88’ plan is new to me. Correct me if im wrong but by that satement there will be a total of 52 new models after a span of six years! Thats alot of dattos…

You guys are a part of the automotive media spreading this unsubstantiated story! 😉

Anyway I hope they don’t, because then searching for old Datsuns specifically will become difficult.

How about this for an idea. Make new datsuns using the old models bodies and running gear but with modern powertrains. That way bodyparts become plentiful again and some countries get come truly awesome cars.

Think of it in much the same way as the Nissan Figaro. Old body style, modern everything else.

I’m only going to support this if they come up with a Fairlady 2000 roadster of some sort.

I have been a Datsun (Nissan) guy since 1979 and I am ready to jump over to Mazda…..SInce I lean more towards the used car sports car world; I am getting bored with what Carlos is turning out……..I do like those Honda S2000’s though.

the datsun name died in the past. let it be. it’s not going to be cool even if they brought the name back.
