Well, when we asked the question we didn’t expect the responses to have quite the level of sadness that they did. Danny‘s Montero build went from valve stem seals to piecing together a whole engine. Eric broke a bolt, then broke the bolt extractor in the broken bolt (we have yet to find a bolt or screw extractor that actually works as advertised). Land Ark replied about his canceled dream trip to Japan — the exact same trip that got canceled in 2020. Ouch! We feel all your pain, but our hearts go out most to Walter. We know stickers are a small consolation, but we think your story is the most tragic, so you are the “winner” this week:

Well after receiving the notification email for “What’s your automotive New Year’s resolution for 2022”, I click on the link to tell all that I intend to finally get my Subaru Young SS on the road after owing it for 41 years…. and what am i greeted by? A photo of a Subaru 360!
It must be a sign from the heavens! Bodes well for my chances……

BTW, that’s supposed to read “owning” it for 41 years – although thinking about it, I guess both could be true! Freudian slip mayhaps? LOL
Just finish this simple short list:
1. Get the Carina TA60 roadworthy again (and get a fresh MOT)
2. Get the Trueno AE86 out of the storage (and get a fresh MOT)
3. Sell off both of them
4. Buy a new (or actually very old) JNC project car
That sounds like a simple plan, but I’m afraid finishing step 1 alone would take me a few months of 2022…
As I currently have all my classics parked aside, my resolution is to get at least two of my three classics ready for the road again before the summer starts. One won’t be that hard, as my Daihatsu Cuore convertible only needs some minor things to get a fresh MOT. Getting the second one ready again might be a bit harder. As one (my ’83 Mitsubishi Galant) experienced fuel leaks some time ago. I suspect the fuel tank is leaking and study and work occupied me from finding a fix for that. And my ’93 Hyundai Sonata is currently waiting at the welder and needs a paintjob after that. Although the paint job is more cosmetic than it’s needed for MOT I do want to fix that before using it again.
Starting an (almost) fulltime job a year ago while still studying parttime left me with little spare time to actually enjoy my cars, but they will get more attention again this year.
I am pretty sure last year my resolution was to clean out my garage, which I succeeded at but it somehow got full of junk again including old furniture so once again…my resolution is to clean out my garage.
Downsize the fleet. Join the forums (I could never get in).
I continue to encourage my wife to hone her manual skills. I need to be more patient at this, otherwise it’s never going to happen.
