QotW: What JNC should be in the Blade Runner universe?

New Year’s in Japan is a time to take things slow. Many people leave the big city lights for the quiet hum of kerosene heaters at their grandparent’s homes in the flat countryside. I too, went outwards to Gunma prefecture and relaxed with family. A funny thing happened though. While browsing auctions I came across an old Blade Runner record and found a second-gen Mazda RX-7 Turbo in white happily resting on the corner. In fact, you can see the RX-7 and theme in action here!

Since the Ridley Scott classic hit in 1982 but Mazda didn’t release the car until 1985, we know it wasn’t cast as an extra for the streets of 2019 Los Angeles. But, I also feel that it may not be that out of place if it had. During this same New Year’s holiday, the new Blade Runner 2049 movie trailer was released and it got us thinking:

What JNC should be in the Blade Runner universe?

As always, the most entertaining comment by next Monday will receive a prize.  Scroll down to see the winner of last week’s QotW: What’s your JNC New Year resolution?

Last week’s QotW best New Year’s resolution came from Cobaltfire‘s drive to not only drive his S30 but to potentially spark (see what I did there) his daughter’s interest in JNCs! Good luck!

To get my S30 back on the road so that I can make some memories in it with my daughter, doing daddy and daughter stuff (Sunday trips, Jiu Jitsu class, road trips, etc.) and just maybe get the next generation interested in JNC’s.

Omedetou, your comment has earned you a set of decals from the JNC Shop!

  1. Nigel says:

    A white Dome Zero

  2. Negishi no Keibajo says:

Technically not a JNC yet but a Will Vi.

  3. Lupus says:

Subaru XT Alcyone and/or SVX Alcyone.
These where space ships at the time.

Nissan MID-4 would also be fine. Prototypes count too, doo they?

  4. Mark Newton-John says:

Datsun F10. Very funny, fits in a dystopian future, and almost no one will know what it is. Except us, of course.

  5. Mark Newton-John says:

Sorry, that should read “funky”. Damn autocorrect. ⌒.⌒

  6. EMC2 says:

A Mazda Cosmo would be cool: very space-shippy already 🙂

What would actually be funny would be a Subaru 360. Fully fitted out with hover-capability etc, but with the main body of the car still original.

  7. Yoda says:

Early ’80s cars that look right for 2019 – Subaru AWD wagon with suspension at full height, Colt Vista AWD, Tercel SR5 wagon, all those proto-crossovers. It’s not a JNC but there’s gotta be an AMC Eagle or two.

  8. Tom says:

    Initial thought: Isuzu Piazza Turbo

  9. Kiran says:

1989 Mitsubishi HSR-2 as it just screams future

  10. potato says:

Gundam 00 had a Toyota 2000GT converted to electric engine.

Ghost in the shell has a Ferrari Dino.

So any good looking car can be in Blade Runner because surely there’s automobile enthusiasts interested with classic cars even if the car must be able to fly they can simply convert them like how they did with DeLorean in BTTF2.
