QotW: What are your summer plans with your JNC?

It’s the heart of summer, at least for those of us living in the northern hemisphere, and the perfect occasion to spend a little time with our cars. Whether it’s some basic maintenance, digging into the rebuild of a major component, or taking a much deserved road trip, we must brave the heat before the colder months return.

What are your summer plans with your JNC?

The most entertaining comment by next Monday will receive a prize. Scroll down to see the winner of last week’s QotW, “What’s the best US-built or US-market JNC?

The winner this week is Troy, who made a strong case for the once-ubiquitous and non-crossover Eclipse:

It’s got to be the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Only the 1st and 2nd gen models were imported from the US to Japan to be sold at select Mitsubishi Car Plaza dealerships. And only with the first gen (1G) could you get the top GSX model (called the GSR-4 in Japan). You also could not get… a 2G GSX, making them extremely rare in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Omedetou! Your comment has earned you a set of decals from the JNC Shop.

just buy it finally. after postponing it for many years it seems that in a few weeks I will be able to acquire what I want for years: isuzu pick up double cabin. my first jnc. previously it could not be a Toyota Corolla ke70 (there are not many in good condition around here) and the Mitsubishi Sapporo are elusive (or good price and at the other end of the country or good specimens over a sensible budget).

Car shows (4 shows, 3 trophies so far), and cruising. My car is stored for the Winter here in the East Coast, so Summer time is all about having fun with JNC. Every chance I get, I go for a cruise!

Arigatou Gozaimasu for last week! For this QOTW, I’m using my ’87 Starion ESi-R as an example. I’d drive it every day, take it to car shows, and probably wash it twice a week! Lately though, Mitsubushi (un)reliability has been killing me and I’ve been fixing the issues the previous owner had left me.

Summer plans for my AE86? Easy.

Drive the f*ck out of it

I have had this ambition to startup my 70 Datsun 510 coupe, with a strong “original” stock 4 cylinder heart and a willing 5peed, On an advantage, along the beautiful Pacific coastal route form the coastline of California, along the rugged shores, the Giant Redwoods, thru coast towns and historic villages where the Russians sat up a colony/fort. To where ports were established “the finest fishing ports” on the west coast of the United States. Visit Fort Bragg, Mendocino, and other coastal sites, before hitting the Major international seaport of San Francisco. Then venturing down into Big Sur. Then on to Southern California, on to San Diego. A DREAM, A POSSIBILLTY, A GOAL.

Be the prince charming to my virginal sleeping beauty, a 1985 Corolla GTS hatch, which has been laying dormant since 2005. Still all original, acquired from the original owner last year.

Summer is still a long way away for us here in New Zealand….. I plan to get my car roadworthy for the start of spring in about October. So I actually better get planning. Nothing major, just I lay her up and exempt from licensing for the 6 months in the middle of the year.

So a service – probably need to look at coolant – haven’t done that for a few years, a polish, oh, and if I get around to it replacing or re-gassing my hood struts – better get that done before the servicing lol!

Then just plenty of driving, attending meets, and the best is that my club has it’s annual national meet in April! Which I haven’t attended since ’16, but as it’s only a couple of hours drive away next year I’m on it!

      Same for me.

My rego expired this June, and suddenly issues plagued the old girl.

I pretty much go to school with dirty hands(I do wash hands, butgrease is a pain to wash off)

  8. Angelo says:

Prove to the local Nissan dealer that my car still has the kick in her by using her as my daily when I start my job training.

  9. Geoff says:

I did my first HC-S class Autocross last weekend, now I’m working on a list of modifications that I can legally do without breaking out of class, but will also make my car more competitive. Not gonna make fast time of the day, but winning my class would be fine.
