Welcome to another week of QotW!
We’ve seen a bevy of summer fun thanks to all the events that have been covered right here on JNC. I noticed several vehicles that appear at these shows are decked out in new and old-school liveries. Frankly, I like this trend (as long as they race them on the track!) as they show off the curves and accents of the exterior styling. Most prominently, the tarmac battlers of the 70’s have been getting a lot of love. This got me to wonder:
What 1970s JNC had the best livery?

Last week, we asked you to help choose the right wheels for out “Mr.2”. You were given a budget of $800 (so generous! My first wheels were a set of $100 14×7 Supras…).
I really dug everyone sharing their searching techniques and trying to stretch the budget. Some like Banpei dug deep for some JNC era rims, though I think the Hiro V-1s look best on a larger JNC sled, not as much on the AW11; though some Advan Onis could do…
Randy offered nearly a full service of wheels and tires– online to the door, as well as some sound advice on our rust problem. Indeed, we need to get that rust treated and the advice on the tires sizes (I remember when 14s were easily available..). Ultimately, it helped to decide on 15s for more tire options and flexibility, for all seasons.
Ant came in again for the win by suggesting some Sakuras. A short search on ebay netted a set of the “controversial” Rota Aleicas in gunmetal for $650 shipped in 15×8/15×9. With those sizes, we can tuck them under the overfenders nicely. Plus, being that they’re re-pops, we can decide to paint them any color and go hard without too much worry. That left us $150 to put aside for tires. But first ,we need to address that rust a bit more. From Ant:
There is only one answer here: Sakuras. With plenty of tire wrapped around them. Can’t find any picture evidence to back up my suggestion, but surely that’s all the more reason to do it…

First one that jumps to mind for me is the excellent liverys that were on the Katayama Savannas in the early seventies. Love the squiggly divide ones the most.

The number 15 Hakosuka belonging to Takahashi-san, no doubt the BRE is up there as well.
However here my personal favourite is the Yellow TS cup Sunny (Tomei)

Yoshimi Katayama’s Mazda RX3.
Singh’s a73 Lancer 1600 GSR paint scheme; white with the signature black-red stripe running across highlighting the Coke bottle shape and the broad diagonal stripes along the flanks, which obviously inspired the Ralli-Art stripe seen on later rally cars such as Pajeros, Satrions, Galants, Mirages, and Lancer Evolutions. More than 4 decades carrying the distinctive colours and stripes of the little Lancer.

I’m going to have to second a bunch of people here and go for the BRE livery for this week’s answer. Looks great whatever it’s applied to.
There are so many to choose from but I have to go with the iconic Renown livery from Mazda that adorned the 1991 24-hrs of Le Mans winning 787B.
