MINICARS: Hot Wheels Hakosuka Nissan Skyline Wagon

JNC stopped by Mattel’s design center yesterday and saw what promises to be one of the most coveted Hot Wheels for 2018 — the Nissan C10 Skyline Van. Designer Jun Imai was kind enough to share the final version with us, card art and all, and it is gorgeous.

More commonly known as the Hakosuka Van, this will feature in the premium Car Culture series called Cargo Carriers, a five-car collection that consists entirely of wagons and vans. This is the debut for the Skyline Van casting, and it is all premium with metal body and base.

You’ll notice that the base identifies the car as a ’69 Nissan Skyline Van. In Japan, the word van simply means a commercial vehicle used for hauling goods, and that his how the real Skyline longroof started life. In true Hot Wheels fashion, however, this wagon has been slammed, its wheels tucked, and a chin spoiler added.

Finished in a gorgeous metallic light green with a brown interior, it rides on small four-spoke deep-dish wheels with rubber tires. Emphasis on details show in fender mirrors, short-nose grille, and the molded surf line.

A Honda Odyssey, Volkswagen Sunagon, Ford Transit Super Van, and VW Type 1 Panel Bus with Mooneyes livery round out the rest of the Cargo Carriers series. Jun told us that the demand for the first Car Culture release, Japan Historics 2, has been overwhelming. Hopefully the Skyline wagon will help continue that trajectory. The Cargo Carriers set should be in stores in February.

Absolutely gorgeous. We’re so lucky to have Jun working on Hot Wheels and being such a big JCCS fan as well. Keep ’em coming Jun. The Crown pick up would be awesome. Also an early Corolla Sr5 (my first car)

The HW Japan Historics 2 has just burst into the scene with a huge demand and now a new Car culture will be out with this new Nissan wagon and some of the more popular models and this could be another hit. The question is will this set be as popular or just some specific model? We’ll see.

With the inclusion of the much anticipated N600 HONDA, I believe the set will be one of the most saught after ever!

Now how about doing the venerable KE70 justice and adding a KE70 wagon? 🙂
