What do you do when regular pudding just isn’t enough? You get Giga Pudding. What do you do if Nissan’s AWD twin-turbo supercar that everyone is calling “Godzilla” just isn’t enough? You get the GT-R SpecV. The spiritual successor of the hakosuka hasn’t even cooled down from its Nürburgring laps yet and Nissan is already unleashing a more nutso version.
Nissan announced today that the GT-R SpecV will go on sale February 2, 2009 at just seven select Nissan dealerships across Japan. It chucks the GT-R’s rear seats altogether and replaces the remaining ones with special carbon fiber Recaros. In fact, the interior is swathed with carbon fiber trim, matched on the shiny side by a carbon fiber grille, spoiler, and brake ducts.
According to Nissan, a new boost controller supplies greater torque in the mid-to-high range while – and we know this is imporant to you GT-R drivers – improving fuel economy. Exotic materials like titanium coat the exhaust system and the brakes are carbon-ceramic, hidden behind NISMO forged aluminum alloy wheels.
In addition to Super Black, Vibrant Red, Brilliant White Pearl and Dark Metal Gray, the SpecV comes in an exclusive color, Ultimate Black Opal. It will cost ¥15,750,000, or just under $170,000. Of course, all we care about is its ‘Ring time and whether it will cream the Porsche 911 Turbo. And whether Porsche will accuse Nissan of cheating again.
I don’t understand why it’s a Spec V…all the previous GTRs (r32, r33, r34) were V-Spec, for Victory Spec. Or even V-Spec II, for the r32 and r34 generations.
The V-Spec was to commemorate it’s dominance at Bathurst (Australia) in the Touring Car and Endurance races in the early 90s.
Spec V? Not right to me.

I’m sorry but… I really don’t care for this car. Maybe a ride or drive would change my mind… but I really think it’s unattractive, and my high distrust of electronic gizmos further scares me away from it.

I was wondering when they were going to drop a spec V. I have to go with Bob on this one though, I don’t trust all of those electronic gizmos; it kind of takes away from the driving experience too.
Looks like a case of “brute force” versus the skill & balance of the old master.

I had a chance to plop myself in a GTR of one of my cousin’s recently. It is a great car with an understated appearance. It’s powerful, fast, responsive, and with potential beyond what I dare explore. This SpecV has got to be an awesome beast.

The Spec V comes with the same motor that’s in the regular GTR correct? Just with a few enhancements? In theory wouldn’t you be able to get the same results from a GTR with similar mods? If so, why bother spend the extra cash on the Spec V?
Yeah, I don’t think it makes sense to buy the SpecV at all unless you’re Bill Gates. For that amount of bread I could buy a regular GT-R and have enough money left over to buy almost all the nostalgics on my dream list.
