Marty McFly’s Back to the Future Toyota Pickup getting a restoration

While plebeians consider the DeLorean the “cool car” from Back to the Future, JNCers know that the real gem from the series was the jet black 1985 Toyota 4×4 Pickup that Marty McFly owned in his new-and-improved future. Now an outfit called Time Machine Restoration has acquired the movie truck and is starting a thorough restoration.

The truck from the original BTTF was tragically destroyed after filming. This is the one from Back to the Future II and III which McFly drag “races” Needles in — has led an interesting life. The Hilux was apparently stolen and recovered in Mexico years ago. It still bears Michael J. Fox‘s signature on the sun visor and a receipts from Universal Studios.

Time Machine Restorations is also in the process of restoring the time machine DeLorean as well, which will be displayed at Universal Studios when it’s completed. What fate awaits the pickup?

Wow! I didn’t even knew the trucks still existed today cool!

This is awesome. I love this car.

Reading through their facebook page and then the Jalopnik article they linked I found this Gem of a comment someone made at the bottom of the article.
It read; “Restoring a Toyota truck? does that mean they put new tyres on it?”

Sums them up beautifully in my opinion.

I had dreams of owning this truck as a kid…

“Stolen and recovered in Mexico” – that’s one very, very lucky mid-size truck to still be in one piece

Seems appropriate that a shop called Time Machine Restorations is restoring this truck.

I remember how cool the truck looked on screen. It’s interesting what these movie and TV show cars go through after being famous. The original Camaro from “Better Of Dead” was found and restored a few years ago. Just how the guy located the car was more work than most people do in a typical restoration! And one of the originals trucks from “BJ and the Bear” has been restored – including a trailer! Anyway, looking forward to seeing McFly’s truck restored and paired up with a time-machine DeLorean at a show some time in the, um, future.
