KIDNEY, ANYONE? 4-door Hakosuka GT-R up for auction

A 1970 Nissan Skyline GT-R sedan will cross the block at RM Auctions in Scottsdale, Arizona in January. After the floodgates opened in Monterey earlier this year, there has been a frenzy of invisible trans-Pacific activity. Moneyed gaijin are trading their dollars for Nihon steel in hopes of catching the Japanese classic tsunami early.

Sellers are clearly trying to ride the wave of the hakosuka hardtop that sold for $242,000 at RM Auctions’ Monterey bid-fest in August, this time by trying their luck with a sedan. This example is a genuine PGC10, powered by the S20 multivalve twin-cam six, reads 58,204 km ( miles) on its 5-digit odometer, and even comes with original black steelies.

There is precious little information about the history of this particular car, chassis number is PGC10-000917, but initial reports from those who have seen both in person say this appears to be a better specimen than the Monterey 2-door.

In Monterey, the hakosuka crossed the block in what was widely considered a poor spot in the queue. Though the lot numbers have not been announced yet, it will be interesting to see how RM Auctions decides to place this one, knowing that the Monterey car exceeded bidding expectations.

I’m impressed that Japanese cars are selling for so much these days. I wonder if it’ll affect the way Japanese companies will design and sell their cars.

  2. KFD says:

So if rich old white dudes are paying stupid money for old Datsuns, does that mean Billy Bob will now be asking fifty grand for that rusted out 260Z in his yard instead of that 318 Challenger hulk?

  3. mister k says:

a couple of years ago there was a decent pgc10 fs $55k, so let’s see how far the collectors take this one…. haha love it

  4. CRA says:

DAMN…one of the few times I wish I was rich. Like loaded rich. Like ‘Who needs a Ferrari when I have my collection of Del Sols’ rich.

I love that engine. That factory air cleaner is my favorite – I could spend hours just looking at this car in my garage except for the cash I need to cough up.

  6. Yoda says:

Only thing that would make it better is if it wasn’t such a meh color inside and out. Doesn’t have to shout “1970” – red with white, blue inside and out, or even a primary color with the black seats’ll do – but harvest gold or metallic avocado with matching interior would be awesome.
