Kidney, Anyone? 39,000-Mile 1979 Mazda RX-7

The seller of this “barn find” 1979 Mazda RX-7 with less than 39,000 miles on its rotary engine canceled all bids and stopped the auction on New Year’s Eve. But if you’re a fanatic Mazdafarian it might not be too late to track down the Norwood, Massachusetts dealer and get your hands on an ultra-minty first year Series One.

The best part? This cherry Seven relaxes in the showroom while a fleet of Ferraris freeze their tailpipes off in the snowy New England winter outside.
At least this joint has its priorities straight!

That 2nd picture is epic. A 79 RX7 in the showroom and a slew of Ferrari’s outside in the north east winter.

eew! they gave it the proverbial used car dealer armorall bath

I didn’t know climate control, heated garages were “barn finds”! In the early 80’s there were a few Japanese cars that beat the crap out of Ferrari’s with twice the horsepower and price! The RX-7 was one of them. I find it very fitting that this one is inside, while the Ferrari’s recieve the cold shoulder!

Bert – that’s why I put “barn find” in quotes… but I’m guessing it’s true and that the dealer is now flipping it for a tidy profit.

  5. Jake says:

I think they brought it in the Dealership just for the photoshoot cause the tires are wet (I could be wrong). Anyway it is still a beautiful example of an iconic Japanese sports car

  6. bert says:

The wet tires could be due to the silicon spray a lot of dealers use to achieve the wet look. Some of them use it to much, I have one dealer that sprays it on the pedals! Really sucks in the rain!

Ben-If it is a “barn find”, they must have rock star detailers!

  7. Ben says:

I guess it’s how literally you take the term “barn.” Caveat Emptor 😉

Sweet! I too suspect that it was probably brought inside for the pics. Still – to see the RX-7 at the same dealer with the Italian Jobs is a good sign that they are considered a car of interest. I liked the part about the choke. Brings back memories of my 81 RX-7 S model with the manual choke. Was there any other cars sold in the 80s that still used a manual choke?

    Nice!

I just spotted an RX-7 of the same vintage (same wheels & color) here in Colorado last week. Lonely in a Geogetown driveway – not as shiny.

beautiful, I don’t like red though (picky, picky)
My 79 has a few more miles on the clock,
but I’ve had it for twenty years so far, and it will be left in my will.
You don’t get rid of cars of this quality, I recommend these cars to anyone.
One of the greatest sports cars ever made.
