KIDNEY, ANYONE? 24k-mile Z31 Turbo

The charms of this 1985 Nissan 300ZX are many. It appears to have every box on the options menu checked. It’s got the proper transmission. It’s a turbo and not a 2+2. It seems to have been very well preserved. And it has just 24,443 miles.

As Nissan’s flagship sports coupe, the Z will always hold a special place in the hearts of collectors. Though the 240Z draws the most attention, we’ve seen a marked increase in interest toward the Z31 chassis. They’ve begun to show up in greater numbers at shows like the JCCS and Nissan Jam, their angular 80s lines no longer going unnoticed.

Offered for sale in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Regatta Red zenki Z31 is claimed to be fully functional, complete with ice cold air conditioning, upholstery that still feels new, and even un-curbed wheels. Whoever took it home from the Nissan dealer in 1985 paid a premium for T-Tops, power everything and, perhaps best of all, the digital dash option.

While known to be unreliable, the oh-so-80s instrument panel and center console on this Z has no problems lighting up like a Christmas tree. Just look at it. It’s like the control room of the Death Star. Live out your Miami Vice dreams with the headlights popped up, roof open, and your Jordache jean jacket bathed in a turquoise glow.

At $12,995 The asking price isn’t pocket change, but it appears that the seller has dropped the buy-in from his or her original $13,400. If you’re starting a Z collection and need an unmolested Z31, this could be your ticket. See it for sale on Craigslist.

24k miles, yet he still managed to find the time to put awful AutoZone foglights on it?

I have been keeping the Z31 faith for almost 15 years now! My two 86 Z31 hardtop twins are still running strong with 250k miles on each one!

The problem for the new arrivals to the Z31 game is that parts are becoming scarce and never mind trying to find new interior parts from Nissan as those have been gone for 10+ years now. Really annoying but necessary parts like shift lever bushings and molded rubber hoses that pass air or water are getting tough to locate from Nissan and the aftermarket has all but stopped producing parts for Z31’s.

It is even more drastic with 280ZX parts (I have 3 of these in hardtop form) as I have been attempting to locate molded heater hoses from both Nissan and the aftermarket. You know things are getting worse when Rock Auto sends you emails announcing close out specials. The Nissan parts counter folks try their best but recently the large oil filters (15208-43G00) have become NLA. I wish Nissan would jump into the vintage parts game.
