JNC THEATER: Paul Newman Nissan Documentary Winning

The producers of Adam Carolla’s upcoming documentary Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman has extended a special invitation to JNC readers. If you will be in the Los Angeles on April 16, you will definitely want to come to the film’s premiere. The charity event will include a screening of the film with many racing legends and a display of at least five historic Nissan/Datsun race cars that Newman drove.

We’ve seen a 15-minute preview of the film and are happy to report that it looks amazing. Though he is best known as an actor, Paul Newman won four SCCA championships, the 24 Hours of Daytona and his class a Le Mans to his one Oscar. He was so closely associated with Nissan that there was even a special edition Skyline named after him. Chock full of vintage Nissan racing footage and testimony from motorsports legends that raced with (and against) Newman, it will not leave any enthusiast disappointed.

One of the cars to be displayed at the event will be an IMSA GT-1 Nissan 300ZX, which Adam Carolla — a huge Nissan/Datsun enthusiast, recently restored. It will be the first public showing of the car since Carolla’s restoration (the photo above is from a before the resto).

Did this promotion expire or get overrun? I entered the promo code but still not seeing it applied. Would love to go.

Any insider goss on whether the film will see distribution in Australia?

Just sayin, we finally have netflix and fibre optics at selected nodes…. 😉

  3. RandyWanger says:

Any idea when this will be released in the UK or on iTunes or similar?

  4. Ben Hsu says:

It gets released in theaters May 22 in the US. We aren’t sure about international distribution yet.

  5. Terrance P says:

Incidently May 22nd is also Nismo Fiesta here in Austin Texas!!

  6. Darryl says:

Listen to Carolla’s CarCast podcast on iTunes, and check out the rest of his offerings from Carolla Digital. Great way to fill your long drives and commutes. If I was in the States for this, I’d go. Sadly, work has me on the other side of the planet, in India. This is the antithesis of automotive enthusiasts, unless you are one of the super-rich.

  7. Nigel says:

I will watch out for the release here in Canada.

  8. eme says:

Hi, thanks for the article. There is 1 hyperlink broken: “the film”.

  9. Keith law aka Bert Vorgon on the 510Realm.com site says:

I so wish I could be at the premier! Having been a life long Datsun 510 enthusiast (1969) and racer for 30 years, I understood Paul Newman’s drive and passion. I even traveled to Portland one year to watch him race an IMSA event. I now will have to drag my photo album out and re-visit that event.

Thanks to those that made this film and do let us know when release maybe in Vancouver, Canada

can we bring our camera gear?

  11. I Skip Panzarella saw the film. Bob Sharp still will not give me a copy of his bill of sale to Kenny. I bought PL’s 79 Champion from my friend Kenny Cassalnova. I now own Paul Newman’s 1979 Iconic Datsun 280ZX. I am a CLIO Winner and feel as a TRIBUTE to PL and Joanne this film should be presented to the Academy for a OSCAR/Documentary. According to Rule 11 of the Academy, the film has to open in LA and NYC for 7 days..FilmBluff opened in LA but has no intention to open in a NYC theater. No NYC no Oscar submission.
When does Adam Carolla/Producer think he will get another chance for an OSCAR.

Unfortunately one of the rules for Oscar eligibility is that it can be released via Video on Demand, which Winning already was. An antiquated rule for when theaters were the only option, but nevertheless there it is.
