I had the suspension from hell. Around 2001, I flew to DE to pick up a 1989 Toyota MR2 SuperChared. I knew the motor was sound and it was a 1 owner car. The plan was to drive it back to FL with a stop at the NOPI car show in ATL. I noticed the car’s suspension…the original from ’89… was a bit bouncy while driving in the city. What I didn’t expect was how it behaved on I-95 on highway speeds. Talk about scary. Bouncy up and down and side to side handling WHILE GOING STRAIGHT was hella spooky scary!!! All I am doing is going straight going 95 and the car was rocking back and forth so hard, I was getting sick… as the driver! Passing people while rocking back and forth must’ve looked funny to others but I was trying to keep it together inside. Had to pull over once every couple of hours but eventually did the whole 1000 mile drive like that. The very first thing I did was order new springs and shocks when I got home. BOO!
For the owner of an “old” car (say prior to 1970) is finding out the last parts you need to complete the restoration are NO LONGER AVAILABLE………. that’s a scary proposition.
Discovering the rare car you just spent 5 years and countless dollars restoring was reported stolen 30 years ago.
Realizing the new Mustang owner leaving Cars and Coffee and heading in your general direction is preparing for a wicked burnout.

That time your head gasket left town, and the oil was dripping onto your driveway at the same rate you were pouring new oil in up top from the filler hole. The “AS IS” sign appears on the windshield within minutes. Scary stuff…
When my wife finds me trawling though Ebay looking at old JNC, or wshe opens the mail and reads my spending statement and sees all of the parts I bought that she doesn’t know about, including for the car she doesn’t know about.
Scary
I get chills when I think about my wife selling all the parts from my Datsun after I die, at the prices I told her I paid for them.

Well speaking of what you would find underneath an old JNC’s bonnet/hood, here’s a little story. My Dad owns a workshop where we specialize in braking systems for cars and although it was not a Japanese vehicle, in came this opel corsa pickup full of dust and what seemed like it had just done the Dakar rally. One of the Mechanics opens the hood/bonnet to access the brake fluid etc. and sitting pretty was a beautiful snake… needless to say nobody went close to that vehicle until the spca arrived and took it away. It was the infamous Cape Cobra. Luckily it survived the trip and was not hurt at all.
On another occasion also opening the hood/bonnet a hairy spider came out to say hi.
I know i tell everyone animals like lions and elephants dont roam the streets in Africa as we in SA and it’s pretty built up in the bigger provinces such as ours but animals and humans do cross paths but rarely.
as for my horror story, nothing yet but im sitting with a busted diff on my Nissan and I miss driving it while waiting for parts.
