Friday Video: Subaru commercials want your heartstrings tugged

ToMoCo has plenty of FR heritage to capitalize on as they gear up for the Toyota 86 launch, but what about its Subaru BRZ twin? Instead of drifting XT coupes we get a  disowned son reuniting with his father over a common love of Fuji Heavy products. Dorama! Also, there’s not one but two official BRZ websites.

If that’s too sappy for you perhaps you’d prefer an ad from Kev’s neck of the woods, in which a bunch of old Subies go all Maximum Overdrive on us.

I bet Ken & Mary never got disowned by their parents.

There’s 2:15 minutes of my life I will never get back. Yawn…..

reminds me of that Honda hybrid commercials you posted here before…flashback-themed commercials gives it a touching reason to remember the times you had with the cars you rode or driven before with all the memories in it whether good or bad. I find this very effective.

At first I wondered why the kid was playing with a VW Bug keychain in a Subaru commercial! Now I just feel dumb!

  5. Tyler says:

The nostalgia is great. At first did anyone else think the BRAT was a Nissan safari rally car?

  6. Chris New Zealand says:

Tyler,…….shame on you we all knew it was a Subaru

Wait, wouldn’t that Subaru Legacy be crushed under Shaken already?

  8. Eric says:

    Better drama than twilight.

  9. dave says:

That was a little too cheesy even for a Japanese commercial, but I like it! I do LOVE the original Legacy.

Most first-generation Legacys I see have been doing a dually’s work on a farm since Clinton’s second term (yes, even sedans), and are battered and rusty to almost post-apocalyptic levels. I’d almost forgotten what one looks like with all the body panels the same color.
