Friday Video: A Toyota Celica's Mad Mission

I rented the Hong Kong action-comedy Mad Mission II from the local video store back in the 80s. This was when I lived in Texas and it was the first Hong Kong movie I’d ever seen, lured by the VHS box’s promise of crazy vehicular stunts. It delivered. Hilarity ensued. And I watched the fleet of Jaguar XJ6s pursue the hero in his yellow A40 Toyota Celica (perhaps the same one from the Norwegian milk ad?) over and over again. I had completely forgotten about it until TSiSS350 posted this link. Thanks for bringing back memories!

We’ve posted on another Hong Kong flick featuring J-tin before, but given that city’s penchant for churning out action packed movies there’s probably a lot more out there. Click through for a brief scene involving a Datsun Sunny as well.

Nice KE70 at 0:33 in the first video! 🙂
Maybe creator of the Norwegian milk ad was also inspired by Mad Mission II? 😀 😀

Jumping any car over another backwards is pretty cool!

That was a Chinese movie made in the 80’s? I didn’t think the Chinese let people have lives back then!

Jackie Chan usually drives Mitsubishi products in many of his films. IIRC, Colt in Crime Story (Where he sends it down a hill), Evolution III and two GTO’s/3000GT in Thunderbolt (Not to mention the appearance of the HSX III Concept Car and the use of Skylines and Corolla’s in the race itself).

looking at the second video of the sunny vs. the pontiac is a Prime example of american excess, our american two door car was almost three times as big as their four door.sad to say that out of two Im sure the sunny is proably still running today.

Ah yes, the infamous “Aces Go Places” episode at Major Video. I’m glad one of us youngsters had the sand to actually convince our parents to rent it.

PFG! Welcome to JNC, bro. I thought you had moved to Michigan by the time we discovered Mad Mission… Perhaps in my old age my memory is failing me. Anyway, glad to see you here. Make yourself at home! Can I get you a beer?

  8. Ben says:

cesariojpn – Jackie Chan isn’t in this movie or you can bet the Celica would have been replaced with a box-type Lancer or something

So not giving examples wasn’t the intent?

cesariojpn – i linked to My Lucky Stars, and I’m sure there are more out there, I just don’t know which ones. If anyone finds any send them our way!
