Well that was quick. The national Cash for Clunkers bill just passed Senate largely in tact, except senators chose to cut the funding from 4 billion dollars to one billion. Now it moves back to the House for review and then onto Obama’s desk, where he will probably sign it into law.
That is still enough funding to make minimum credits for 400,000 vehicles. Unless the cost of administering the program, and crushing the vehicles is included in that funding. Could we arrange for more graft and waste so that less of that budget makes it to voucher payments and more is lost in the program? It would have been nicer if the funding were cut much more, and the program turned into a token that would run out of funding before more than a few cars were crushed.
This makes me sad.
Yes we all know my 87 MR2 (32 MPG) uses more fuel than a 2009 yukon hybrid (19MPG)….
Looks like your MR2 will be safe, as few people will be able to qualify for the credit by trading one in.
Yeah i read the earlier post. I am still worried about the other nostalgics i hope to one day own. Hopefully bureaucracy will prevent this bill from actually working.
It prevents everything else from working effectively, so why not?
