Best Motoring episode created using only Gran Turismo 7 footage

Despite some early (now fixed) issues, Gran Turismo 7 has proven to be one of the best installments in the PlayStation racing series. It’s a continuation of what made fans fall in love with the franchise in the first place, with heaps of cars to choose from and realistic depictions of famous tracks. It’s so comprehensive, a dedicated user was able to recreate an entire episode of Best Motoring using footage from the game.

The brilliant tribute is the creation of Eric Yui, a member of the GTPlanet forum. Set at Tsukuba Circuit in the year 2000, the battle features the best of the best from Japan — FD Mazda RX-7 RZ, Honda NSX Type S Zero, A80 Toyota Supra RZ, R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV and Evo VI TME, and Subaru Impreza WRX Type R STi.

The format should be instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with Japan’s video series. Everything is spot-on and feels like a time warp, from the way the cars are posed during the spec summary to the in-car views during the race. Incidentally, this isn’t Eric Yui’s first game-based tribute to real-world media. Last year, he created a 78-page issue of Evo magazine using images from Forza Horizon 4, including ads.

This is extremely crazy! This effort seriously blurs the lines between real and fake, and you’d have to seriously scrutinize to differentiate between the two. I wonder how the in-car videos were able to show the drivers driving with one hand, or two hands, or move in certain postures.

Alas, I’m still on Gran Turismo 4, and that version was infamously known to take a long while to load. I’m wondering how long these games take to load nowadays….
