Behold, Japan’s suddenly famous Drift Dog

Earlier this month, a video of a Japanese dog went viral when the owner filmed it running down the side of an irrigation canal. Its cuteness, plus the fact that it had kind of an angled gait, quickly garnered it a crap-ton of views. Of course, it wasn’t long before the Initial D comparisons emerged.

Above is the original video, posted to Twitter by @kinakinako0503.

It was only a matter of time before someone added manga-style action lines and a eurobeat soundtrack.

Soon after, another commenter Photoshopped the dog into an actual manga panel against Kyousuke Takahashi’s RX-7. “This is a dogfight!” someone replied, hilariously.

The Japanese dog — a Hachiko-roku, if you will — is now famous, with over 6 million at the latest count. Does it care? Of course not, it is a dog. Hope all you have a weekend as good as this pup’s outing at the canal.

    Uh that’s not Takumi’s 86 behind the dog….That’s Kyousuke Takahashi’s RX-7 it recreate it’s first episode ending…..

I personally think it’s not a recreation from the first chapter, but from the first Alina battle. The 12th chapter is called “dogfight” and the race ends in chapter 13 with a similar gutter strategy pulled off by Takumi. ?
Also the panel of the person shouting “this is a dogfight” seems to be taken from a different manga: I think he’s holding a remote control and not a radio. Anyone aware of a manga about remote controlled (drift) cars? ?

I’ve been thinking about getting a Shiba Inu one of these days. This might push me over the edge. (Akita’s are too big for my taste).

My co-workers aren’t going to understand why I’m busting a gut laughing at a dog running along an irrigation canal…and then it’ll take me 1/2 hour to explain, and they still won’t get it.

But, this is a great way to start my Monday. 😀

Do get one, everyday is nothing but pure bliss and they are truly funny. Our Shiba does things that makes us wonder what goes on his little head. Super intelligent but also have massive personalities.
