ART CORNER: Rocket Craft’s stuffed cars are the cutest thing ever

Rocket Craft plush Isuzu Bellett

The problem with cars is that they’re made of metal. That means rust, skinned knuckles, and, most importantly, an inability to be cuddly. A shop called Rocket Craft has solved that last one for us by creating a series of stuffed cars, which are totally adorbs.

Being from Sapporo, most of Rocket Craft’s work are of Japanese machines. Everything from a Subaru wagon to an Estima minivan to Godzilla gets the kawaii treatment.

As the list goes on, the felt shapes get more complex. The D21 Nissan pickup even comes with a roll bar and a host of decals. For lovers of the Hilux, there’s both D60 and D80 generations.

The process involves creating a foam core around which felt body panels are sewn. Car models are about 35-45 cm long.

On the website, they regret not being able to make deep-dish wheels, but accept the challenge for future designs. Each model is more or less unique. Colors are chosen based on customer input, and they can even add custom aero bits and wheel designs.

Even if you just want to snuggle with the engine itself, Rocket Craft offers everything from a silver-top 4AG to a Mazda 13B to the 3M from the famed Toyota 2000GT.

However, most impressive are their incredible plush motorcycles, which are created out of at least a dozen distinct pieces.

Each model costs about $350 to $400 dollars, and a custom license plate can be added for $40. Unfortunately, there appears to be no way to order in English.

I hope it’s impossible to order from the website. I see two cars (the pickup and the altezza) that I would get if it were possible. $800+ out the window…

It looks like you send a picture of your vehicle, and they take it from there. Pretty cool, and being hand-made, I get the price. Based on the RX-7 wing, I can see the deep dish wheels being doable: colored (“wheel color”) fabric on the inside of a “ring,” connected to the outer tire-portion, and to the wheel inside the ring.

    Is the one a potato?
