KIDNEY, ANYONE? Some nut “walled in” an Acura Integra Type R inside a barn

The honest but sad truth is that Hondas are thief magnets. Shout the name of any 90s model from Civic to Prelude in a room of car enthusiasts and you will hear back a dozen stories of how someone’s friend, relative, or co-worker had one, got it stolen, and recovered it in a field months later stripped down to its shell. So what do you do if you have one of the most desirable Hondas of the era, the Integra Type R, whose 195-horsepower engine and lightweight body parts are catnip for criminals? Seal it in a barn, of course, behind a false wall.

That is apparently the fate of one Canadian-market Integra Type R, which was shown on eBay being freed from its wooden vault. The car has about 132,000 km (a bit over 80,000 miles) on the odometer, and is claimed to be one of 250 Championship White examples with red seats, which were available only in Canada in 2001.

One photo shows a red car cover, which appears to be one of the original dealer accessory examples. It is also said to have a $2,000 CND air-conditioning option. Remember, the Type R was supposed to be a lightweight racing model, and most did not come with aircon. The seller describes it as original except for a cold air intake, that day-one mod every Honda seems to sport.

However, the car isn’t mint. A closeup of the door shows a three-inch dent with scratches that appear to have gone beneath the paint, along with several more imperfections and dirt from debris. The listing also says the front bumper has perhaps been repainted. The seats also show some dirt.

The car and auction was discovered by Barnfinds and subsequently reposted on other sites, claiming that the car had been walled inside the barn for 10 years. It should be noted, though, that is not mentioned in the auction itself, nor is there any actual mention of the car being sealed behind the false wall. According to some Honda forums, the feeling is that one should take the story with a grain of salt.

Nevertheless, it does appear to be an actual Canadian-spec Type R. If you’re interested, you can find the and the car located in Châteauguay, Quebec. The asking price of $39,999.99 CDN ($29,950 USD) is at the upper limit of what a car with this condition and mileage will bear. Whoever buys it will have to find their own way to keep it from thieves.

That “nut” is crazy like a fox. This is nothing but an elaborate attempt to gin up the value of a used car, Type R not withstanding. This is a stunt worthy of P.T. Barnum. If it had 100 miles on it I could see keeping it off the road, but come on…

    This way to the exit.

I agree, there seems to be something fishy about the auction. That’s why I put “walled in” in quotes and mentioned the lack of mention of the car being actually sealed in the auction’s description. There is a lot of salt to be taken here, but it still is a rare car, and buyers should do their due diligence.

  2. Being the owner of several Hondas, I can understand hiding your car in behind a false wall.

The only safer bet is to find an undisclosed location in the woods and build a bunker with ancient egyptian tomb style booby traps around it to further deter thieves.

I enjoy this car so much, just knowing it’s behind the wall, covered, where I can never look at it. I love having it hidden away because it’s a very special car because of how great it is to drive.

Did Canada not get the proper Recaro seats? All very well them being red but they look like the same chairs you’d get in a base model Integra…

  5. KiKiIchiBan says:

No Recaro seats? Both DC2s I had were Type R one JDM one UKDM both had red Recaro seats from the factory. Why did Canada get poverty spec?

    GREAT SCOTT!!!

You should all know that it was walled in because it’s actually Dr. Emmet Brown’s time machine. He was shot again in the early 2000’s, but hid this car with the intention of Marty retrieving it to prevent Doc’s untimely death.

The cold air intake is actually a later iteration of the flux capacitor (what makes time travel possible).

Marty will win the car in the auction and stop President Biff from creating a time parodox which will destroy the entire universe! Thankfully, the destruction would be limited to our galaxy.
