1969 Mitsubishi Colt 1100F Article

mitsubishicolt1000Here’s a great little article on a car that rarely gets any love, the Mitsubishi Colt. But it’s not the Colt you’re thinking of. While the US was getting Mitsus branded as Dodges and Plymouths, Australia got these exports straight from JDM-land. The US market Dodge Colts were called by other names like Lancer and Galant in Japan.

This car debuted in 1965 in as the Mitsubishi Colt 800 due to its 800cc motor. It was a sporty two-door coupe with styling inspired by the jet age. By 1966 the engine grew to 1000cc and it became known as the Colt 1000F. Finally, in 1969 it got another 100cc bump and was called – you guessed it – the Colt 1100F, which is the white one pictured here. You can see several posts in the JNC forum from our Aussie readers regarding these cars, including the sedan version. For more information, check out OldColts Australia.

I’m interested in getting information about this car, I happen to own a 1971 colt 1100 but is not a small car, mine is a little truck, and I need to get some technical information and pictures.
    Thanks

  5. Hi there,

In my Flickr Photo sets are some reviews of Colt 1100F’s taken from motoring-mags in the late 60’s (press my name and you should be magically propelled to the page or if that fails type ‘Jap Crap Car Club’ into google)

You’ll also spot on Flickr there’s heaps of nostalgic Jap Car photo’s out-and-about New Zealand roads as well.

I’ve just completed the mechanical restoration on my 1969 1100F and the car is literally in the panel beaters as I write this – having some rust cut-out.

That will get her roadworthy and I hope to have ‘her’ back to pristine condition with some interior work over the year (as money comes to hand – you know the deal)

There are four 1100F’s in The South Island I know of and at least one North Island 1100F went up on Trade Me (N.Z version of ebay) in the past few years.

    Cheers there.

    Paul

I had a Mitsubishi Colt 1100F in the mid 1970s and it was great except that I was always having the triple carbs tuned.
