KIDNEY, ANYONE? 1968 Paris Auto Salon Mazda 110S

Mazda Cosmo 110S 02

Mazda Cosmo Sports are rare already, but this particular specimen has the added provenance of being a show car. According to the seller, it was displayed at the Mazda booth at the 1968 Paris Auto Salon. Additionally, this is an export model and is badged a Mazda 110S rather than a Cosmo Sport.

Since then it’s made its way to Berkshire, UK in what appears to be a Mazda specialist shop. It’s also received an engine and transmission swap somewhere along the way, with a 13B in place of the original 10A. Unfortunately, some modifications to the engine bay an transmission tunnel had to be made to fit the new powertrain, and the seller admits that it could use a refresh. As a result, this would be a good candidate for a fiery red daily driven alternative to the pristine white museum pieces out there, as our friends at Bring a Trailer posit.

The asking price is £18,000.00, or just under $30,000 USD. Shipping not included.

That’s the personal car of Carl hayward, from Hayward rotary, a well known rotary specialist in Europe. I had my 13b rebuilt at his shop this summer. The car was there to be refreshed and we discussed about it. At this time it didn’t seem that he was willing to sell it…

The price sounds about right to me, considering it’s modified. And because of that, hopefully the new owner won’t fret about driving it everywhere, but that’s what they’re for.

I WANT ITTTT!!!!! If I could afford it I’d probably Peripheral Port the 13B if I couldn’t fit a turbo system in it. Its already been modified to fit the 13B so might as well go all the way.

  5. Dave says:

Hmm… it’s too bad that it’s been separated from its original engine. Missing all the badges, too. But I guess it’s priced accordingly.

They could at least dust off the engine bay for that price.

If any one was going to bring this back to glory or even as a road going promo car you think they would. Instead it has been stuck at the back of a dank shed and wheeled out to be flogged off. The engine does not even run??!…….This from a so called Mazda Rotary specialist…. ppfftt!

Have heard of this Hayward specialist bloke. What worries me is that if he cannot get it running then either there is alot more missing than mentioned or maybe he aint such a specialist.Would have thought a clean, running car would be alot easier to sell. Cosmo spares never come up for sale, so a hard fix for a buyer. That type of money will find you a complete one in Japan.

I have been looking for a Cosmo for a while now and was initially excited, but reading on maybe not. It’s priced as though it’s original, but sadly it’s had an old 13B motor dropped in, and has been cut about to get that to fit. Shell surgery on a valuable car sadly isn’t something I’d choose to have done at the Hayward shop. It sounds as if they dropped in a bit of an old smoker which needs a rebuild too, which doesn’t exactly suggest it’ll be a work of art..

Shame to see them get messed around like that really. I have a lead on one in Reading, will keep on that.

going to need the asking price again to buy some rear lamps. like it how a specialist is selling with a duff engine
