I heard that the Miata guys rode the same highway and was told that the CHP was lying in wait and pulled over several cars for minor infractions like no front license plates. Anybody else hear of the CHP targeting drivers? I don't want to come and risk getting inspected.

The CHP does not drive up there. They hang out at the Shell station and use the restrooms and get coffee. They usually patrol the freeway, not the crest.

However, park rangers and the local Sheriff is up there. They are usually good guys, as long as you obey the posted speeds. There are bikers (10speeds) up there and it is dangerous for them if we zoom by unexpectedly.

That being said, the people organizing this get together is not advocating any kind of illegal speeding or reckless driving. It is a fun drive, to get together and enjoy the cars, not to tear up the canyons. If you feel lucky driving with no front license plate, you do so at your own risk.

I think I will play it smart and find a bracket and mount that license plate if I make it up. I' in San Diego so it is a bit of a drive. Maybe I will drive up from the south and meet up at the BBQ.

Yee is right.
The cruise is fun and usually the CHP that not hassle you unless you are driving recklessly and trying to hit the corners at 80mph like the motorcycles. Regarding the front license plate I would just put it on and not worry about anything. I suggest you don't miss the cruise.
Hope to see you there.

Anyone else from the I.E. rolling out there? I'll be heading out from Rancho Cucamonga.

Yee! Glad to see you're on the forums.

I'd be rearing to go with the Cressy Wagon but I have a wedding to go to this weekend :(

Next time, though!

Wish I could have made it to the meetup. Too much trouble to drive from San Diego in time. I did drive it on my own, but I was too late to make it to the BBQ. I was with you in spirit.

Man, that looks like a blast. All the cars look great but that multi-colored TE27 really captured a Japanese rat rod feel, and that white 1st-gen 7 is hotness.
