There's a lot to post here (two years worth of work), so try to keep any questions until I'm done...

-------------------------

In case you fellas from down under and in Japan didn't know, we never got these cool cars here in the US. But my friend Steve managed to get one here.

And he's putting a monster SR20DET in it. Notice the big BLITZ front-mount too...
Image

Image

He's aiming for 400hp, so no Datto rear end would do...

Putting in a narrowed Ford 8.8" with a locker:

Adjustable coil-overs fitted
Image

Rear overall view, and yes, that's a BIG diff (from a Mustang FYI)
Image

Turbo manifold, view from the bottom (as that's the only way to see it)
Image

----------------------

The car picked up a few scratches and dings while fitting the new rear axle so Steve decided to two-tone the ute.

Back from the paint shop (for the 3rd time!)
Image

Image

Image

Shot of the intercooler. It won't be visible at all when the truck is done.

Image

And he should be able to fit some decent rubber under there... May be tubbing the rear to fit even more... :-o

Image

When making a new trans tunnel, it helps to have no windshield and to be 6'3".

Some more progress pics...

He opened up the grill for more airflow, but since the IC will be anodized black, it will look fairly stock from 5-10 meters away. ;-)

Image

Modified the stock core support top to be removable...

Image

Yet another custom intake manifold... I think this is his third? :P

Image

Overall view...

Image

Here you can see where the middle of the firewall is being moved back about 6-8cm...

Image

He's basically building a whole new tunnel from scratch. In progress photo...

More progress...

Took a bench seat from a Mazda truck and cut it down to fit the ute...

Image

If you look close, you can see where it was cut and rewelded in 8 places...

Image

Working on "tubbing" the back now...

Using 3pc BBS RS wheels, sized 15x6.5. As it fits right now, it looks like the wheels can be stretched out to 15x8.5 and still tuck in nicely. :-D

Image

One more of the wheel...

Yes, the diff has been narrowed quite a bit...

Update...

11.75" scalloped Wilwood rotors on AP Racing aluminum hats.
Image

Nice used door panels sourced from South Africa...
Image

New headlight eyebrows, also from SA...
Image

11.5" rear rotors...
Image

Front rotor with wheel on. Not much daylight there...

Image

It's nice to have a lift... ;-)
Image

Made a new crossmember. Version 2 was made to be stronger and fix some geometry problems that the version 1 had...
Image

He made a neat screw-in boss for the engine mounts so there's no nut to install underneath.

And from today...

-------------

Steve used the front rotor and caliper from a motorcycle to make a custom e-brake, mounted on the driveshaft.

We're hoping for around 1750-1800 pounds and about 400hp. 8)

Should be quite fun. And scary.
