Hey guys, my name is Michael and I am new to japanese nostalgic.
I have a 79 datsun 620 with a J15 and 4 on the tree. Now the unfortunate part is that I have so many Ideas I would like to put into place but the one thing stopping me is the drum brakes all round. I have been told that all 78 and up have disk brakes, sorry guys you lied they dont all have the disk brakes.
I was wondering if some one could help me with this. and also if you would know how to change to 5 stud instead of 6.

I bet you could redrill hubs and rotors to 5 stud with little issue. Unfortunately all the Datsun/Nissan commercial utes (as opposed to coupe utes like the B120s) are 6 stud to my knowledge.
Cool, cheap 6x139.7 wheels are plentiful on yahoo Japan, not to mention tons of steel ones in Aus...

Could you perhaps use 720 stubs, hubs, rotors and brakes for the front?

Heck, USDM 620s never even had that engine (they had L16/L18/L20b engines). Might try importing the spindles/hubs/rotors/calipers from the US?



Seen a few guys do it by using a Toyota rear end and front brakes, but there's a bit of fab work involved there.

Thanks to all you have been alot of help. Its weird that it came with a J15, everyone says that. But it has the original books and the factory plaque to say that it came with it.

The New Zealand 620s have the J15 engine and drum brakes all round too, and badged as Datsun 1500. We had a 1979 620 as a work ute at a previos job. They still had it up till about 2 or 3yrs ago. Was originally that Datsun orange colour, but had been painted navy blue at some stage.
