Okee dokee, got off my arse and did some work.
Fixed my fuel sender, now when the gauge reads 1/8 tank it actually has petrol in it!
Fixed the cam belt problem. Twice as per usual.
Tightened the belt so you could absolutely not twist it 90 degrees.
To tight wannit. Went all zingy on me.
Anyone who has done this job on an RB twin cam knows it's no small thing. Its a radiator out job.
Even the crank pulley has to come off
And you have to put it all back together to try it out.
Anyway, took it all apart and removed the 'absolutely' bit.
Now she's all apples.
Aaaanyway, time to fix the chunes.
For fathers day my family bought me a new head unit
oOooh trendy. The important bit being this.
As she is now...
2 screws behind the ashtray
And one above the ciggie lighter(oops, politically incorrect) utility power point.
and the surround is out
4 screws for the bracket, 2 here
And 2 underneath
And out she comes
Unplug all this crap and she's out
The bracket holes lined up perfectly with the screwholes in the new unit
Trial fit. I wanted to use the surround out of my old car because it has a sunglass holder drawer thingy.
For the coolest sunglasses ever made......
The mirror Aviator
Unfortunately, wont fit with the bracket, and I hate cutting things ...
And this is just too big a hole....
So I removed the tape deck part
Put the original radio back(to fill in the gap) and voila!
Put the old surround back and it fits almost perfectly
Just a small gap on one side
So I hooked up all the wiring and.........
it didn't work.
Seems old systems have a common earth on the speakers, which was fine when you had 3.7 watts per channel RMS, but it fails a bit when you are punching 52 watts per channel.
So I had to rewire all the speakers.
I had the shits a bit so didn't take any pics.
Anyway, next installment:- amp and sub. Doof Doof Doof Doof (etc, etc)
Hooks
