1978 Daihatsu S-38-P minitruck

this model was very famous in the early 80s when it was used as public transportation after it was modified to the stationwagon. automotive industry became mushroomed to convert S38 basic model to a passenger's vehicle that can be loaded upto 10 pax !!

TQ, but its engine is 365cc 2-stroke 2-cylinder. It is an older version of HiJet.

Did Daihatsu use the Indonesian market to use up old two-strokes they had lying around? I would love to know more, would it be possible to get a scan or photo of the handbook with engine specs and possibly a date as well?

Daihatsu sold the two-stroke engined S38 till the early 80s in Japan in parallel to the S40 with the four stroke 550cc engine.

I assume the two stroke engined Hijet was a bit cheaper.

I think that would be good project for you to convert that minitruck. I also had a project like this and I would admit that I learned a lot of things there. When the project began, I was a dummy coz I don't have a clue on what to do. I asked for the help of my friends but they don't want to help coz they told me that this is my project and not theirs. The last option that I did was to search about auto repair shops that specializes in minitrucks and use it as a reference. With the things I found, the project became a success and I graduated from being a dummy.
