Every since I was about 12 or so I have had a thing for old Mitsubishi's, particually 2 doors. My first sighting at 12 was a 1960's Colt and I was in love.
Since seeing a Galant Hardtop in the late 80's I have wanted one. I searched long and hard for the 'right' car and eventually found it in 2004.
It was a one owner vehicle with less than 100,000k's (70,000mls) on the clock and had never been damaged. I drove it for about 3 months until the poor old engine started to get smokey. It then was put into storage until I had the time it deserved.
So about 18 months ago I pulled my Galant out of dry storage and took it to a shed I was renting to start stripping it for refurbishment.

I am very lucky that the car was very straight and just about rust free.

Started body work

I want the end product to be very Japanese but look a bit like it was done up in the late 70's and preserved

I will be replacing the stock 13" wheels with some 15x8" wheels once they have been refurbished and widened

This is how I want them to look when finished :)

Very nicely done! That thing is going to be a lot of fun with Starion power.
Can't wait to see more!

Hopefully I will have the engine and box out of the Starion this weekend, throw some new rings, barings and gaskets at it, paint it up and should be in the Galant by the end of July.

Scored some JDM tail lights for it, they need some work but will look sweet when finished.

Laid out with the stock Australian lights

How they will look after a referb

It'll be good to see the finished product of this, keep up the good work. :tu:

Curious though, if you run those rims with that much offset how will they fit in your guards?

i lol'd when you said you were going for retro japanese look but you did a dual center exhaust.

but i know it wont end up with flush face 17"s and venetian blinds in the rear window like a lot of other Aussie cars, so i am happy.

I hear ya, although the exhaust isn't 70's I liked the look, and have a fuel cell for it so didn't need the factory tank :)

I am not a fan of the venetian at all either. It won't be going too low and won't have silly tyre stretch, I just want it nice and tidy, very useable and fast ;)

Wasn't me Matt, I searched long and hard for mine, they are a genuine NOS Japanese Mitsubishi item. I think colta51 was chasing some bullet style mirrors, but he has some now

Just a quick update.
I have decided to keep the 4G63 SOHC and not mess about with the DOHC just yet, I really have enough other stuff to do with this car, lol
Anyway, on that path I thought I would just share my latest puchase.
A inlet manifold from a Galant. It will give me MPi and far more adjustability with injector timing and in the long run more power.

Image

And I trial fitted my JDM tail lights, I am pretty happy.
What do you guys think?
