Picked this up the other day for 230 bucks. Runs and drives perfect! It basically had 2 issues. One the car was towed behind a motorhome and whoever wired upt eh trailor lights screwed up the mid lights on the tails, so I had to rip apart a starion tail light, light bulb holders and swap them out with the buested up ones that were in the car. The other is the rubber grommets for the throttle cable are gone, and there is a lot of swap in the pedal.

Other than that, she runs perfect. I'm working on setting up some rally lights ont he car, and possibly painting the hood a satinish black like the rally cars.

I'm also working on getting some la lancer stuff for the car. Grill, bumpers, and possibly hood vents.

Wow, that's pretty nice! I had an '86 Dodge Colt a number of years ago and HATED the car bc it was such a FWD POS. I had been told that the 70s Colts were RWD and looked much better than mine did, and that is so true.

Don't see these around often, take care of her

So I got the bmw "rally" lights almost completely mounted. I have a little tweaking to do still. I also need to clean and paint the housings, and get some nice clean lamps. I'm looking for a set of those old yellow mercedes lights. Hopefully I can dig up a set.

Tomorrow I will be searching for a alternator, didnt get a chance to today. I also need to buy some switches and wire the lights up.

I'm real happy with how they turned out. I really do need to go over the paint and clean it up though, and definately need some wheels.

That's a wild set of Rally lights there, certainly looking the part now.

Yep, you stole that for $230.00 -- I am seething with envy.

Now all you need to do is yank out that anemic 1600 and bolt in a 2600 with a five speed. Retain the exsisting rear end, as it should have the taller, 3:91 gears... that will make a very sprightly combination!

Either way, it's extremely cool. GREAT FIND! :tu: :tu: :tu:

got rid of the steelies today, or tried. I picked up some old american racing or ap or whatever they are old school mesh wheels today. Made the car look quite a bit better. I'll work with these until I get a set of watanabes. Unfortunately I already got a nail in one of my tires and I havent even put 40 miles on them -_- Had to throw a steelie back on. I'm also getitng a bit of fender rub with them ni the front. running 185 70 r14. I spent some time at the jyard today looking for some relays for my new lights, and trying to find a decent fusebox for inside the car for some other stuff. Also pulled a saturn alternator, but I didnt grab it yet as I wasnt sure if it was the one I am looking for. Good ol gm doesnt label crap on their componets.

The yellow Merecedes lights you want are Bosch 5 3/4 inch ambers H1 bulb.

Theres always a set on ebay search "Bosch Lights" or any 5 3/4 lamp.
The reflector on some flakes on the used ones.Something to check.

Switch out the 7 inch sealed beam also.

Well, I finally got off my lazy butt and bought some 3m rubbing compound and swirl remover to cleanup the old paint. I have a full bottle of both of the stuff laying around somewhere, but I couldnt find it. Oh well.

Anyhow, she cleaned up real nicely. I need to figure out what to put over the top to protect the car. I just used the 3m rubbing com, pound, then meguires swirl remover, but I figure there is another step I can take to keep the paint from fading out again?

Great job. It looks like a completely different car.

I really like the Mother's finishing wax for a top coat. It holds it's shine really well.

Shaun,

Which rubber grommets for the throttle linkage do you need?

Are you talking about the two that are on the linkage assembly right behind the carb - in that whole "pin and yolk" assembly with the cotter pins?

If these are what you're talking about, I can help you.

Mike

I think those are the ones. It's that linkage where the gas pedal shaft and carb shaft meet up. I can snap a picture later to show you what im talking about.

No need to photograph it. I'm sure that the ones that were originally there have turned into sticky black goo, right?

I bought a pile of these grommets a while back. I'll dig them out tomorrow. Send me a PM with your address and I'll mail you a set of them.

Be sure to disassemble that whole junction assembly and clean all of that black goo off of it before installing the new grommets. The most difficult part will be removing the collar off of the main shaft that comes out of the firewall. The rest of it is a piece of cake.

I have been putting off wiring these up foprever, and then when I had a local datsun shop take a look at my car for the possibility of a rack and pinion swap, I decided I needed to get it done. So I finally got around to wiring up the lights I put on. I was extremely pleased with the results. I took it up on some roads tonight in the gravel and a few hill climbs. They are amazing, but have a feeling I need to upgrade my alternator soon :) I have the brights wired up along with the lows on the dual lamp sealed beams, then the lows, so basically running I can run 4 brights, and 6 lows at once. She puts out some good light.

Since I mounted everything in the back on the front core support, it's a bit jittery, but when driving it really doesnt bother me whatsoever, so I will elave it that way for the time being. I see a cage and some rally in the cars future, so it will probably get hellas down the road, but for flying around on the back roads, this is perfect.
