Hello from new guy in Aust

Hi all
Been lurking on here for a few months, usually when quite at work, thought it was about time i registered and said hello!

Loved the Stanza build from Big John in Thailand, amazing detail...

After reading every page of Kev's Project Hakosuka i couldn't see my desk from the paperwork that i had neglected....it took me weeks to catch up....but what a story! Great work Kev - all this with three kids under 6! I have two kids under 3 and i can't find time to read the newspaper...

Anyway i am an ex JNC owner - i sold my Stanza coupe about four years ago, became a family man with two wagons!!!

PS: I was also a member of the NDSOC so hello to people that may remember me...

In the near future i will post up a thread with the write up and pictures of the stanza build - nowhere near the extent of Project Hako - most of the pics were taken on a film camera so i have some scanning to do...

Great forum too BTW, lots of info and nice people.

Hi Craig,

looking forward to your thread on the Stanza. Do you know how many of these are around? Were they sold new in AUS, or are they private imports?

The reason I ask is that I had never seen a coupe until a couple of weeks ago at All Japan Day here in SA.
I was walking past it thinking gee, that's tidy, then noticed it was a coupe!

rx2 - in regards to the Stanza coupes, they were and werent sold here.

What happens was, they were never officially meant to be sold here. A shipment of them bound for South Africa [bout 110 cars from memory] got sent to South Australia on accident [whoops lol]. Datsun/Nissan decided it was cheaper to sell them here then to put them on another boat.

Yes, they were bound for South Africa (in crates to be assembled) but ended up in Australia - all 125 of them. Nissan Australia decided to assemble them at their plant in Clayton, Melbourne and imported a shell from Japan to set up the jigs. Most were sold in Melbourne and i think it was a special order in other states.

That yellow one is mint! So glad the owner kept it all granny spec.

Everything forward of the windscreen base is the same as the sedan. The windscreen is 1 inch lower than the sedan, along with the roof line but most of the interior is interchangable - except the rear seats which fold flat like a wagon.

Hi GBG - don't rack too hard, yes last name is 'F' (and i share it with well known aus athlete).

Glad you remember the Stanza - i did a couple of Concourse at Southbank and a few tours/cruises/trials and attended a few meetings at the pub in Hawthorn (forget the name of it). The missus and I have great memories of those times.

If i am remembering correctly your last name starts with H and was that when i joined but soon after had a hyphen?. - (this fact should also let you know how long ago we are talking here).
