This car was in pretty good shape inside and out. Engine was still there. I bet it probably could have been driven out of there (if you added wheels to it). This was part of the "Cash for Clunkers" initiative, which means it can never be registered to road use again.

but problably you could use it only for show\track use, at least here, only requirement is insurance specific to those cases.

Or spare parts for a "legal" one.

No, with the cash for clunkers program the engine is seized in a way that it can't be used anymore and then the shell can only be parted out. As for SVX's in Europe, they were sold there and there are a few running around but it is like here, they are hens teeth. Because, there were a limited amount made over the years.

Always been told that Subaru believed the 5spd wasn't up to handling the torque of the 6cyl. Based on warranty claims I've seen with the 4cyl cars, I'd buy that.



FWIW, plenty of cars didn't have their engine "seized".

all the dealerships around here did make it so the motor will not run anymore. either from a chemical (from what I gather it might be liquid glass) poured in to replace the oil and then ran till the engine locked up, all fluids drained then ran till destruction, shot, or destroyed otherwise from sledgehammer or the like

It was one of the requirements for the program to make it so the engine will never run again.

I literally have seen 20 of those in the local yards...they have no real replacement trans for the JUNK auto trans...damn shame.

there have been people that have successfully converted them to a manual transmission, either the 5sp or 6sp works

that is ashame.

even the most frugal know to keep the ecu, engine and drivetrain for one heck of a serious hack into another subaru.. with a lighter body.

been finding these local randomly. I pondered that they made more than 25000.

Dont think Australia got these new... I have seen a few though I have always thought they were jap imports.

"My understanding is that Aus did get these new - cost a mint though but looked great. The folks that bought them are hanging on to them now - you have to wait till they pass on before you can claim one (deceased estate stuff etc...)

Parts are horrendously expensive - eg: a radiator assembly close to $1300+ AUD ex-Japan and no aftermarket available (+ labour if req.)

Very unique piece of Subaru history but pricey to own...."
