@Aaron
Beautiful car! with full options (A/C, Power Steering, powered side mirrors). i haven't seen powered side mirror option before in this car.

RSilve is right, you better try installing manual transmission.

@ansarghani

Thanks! Yeah all the special features. The mirrors arn't actually powered they are on a cable system that you can control with joysticks inside the car.

@ansarghani, Oracles, RSilva
As far as the transmission goes that is the overall goal to change from auto to manual but because JCI (Shaken) or inspection is so strict over here it will be simpler to fix this one and then swap it over after instead of trying to change it on the title. End results for both cars is a more powerful engine and transmission such as the 1JZ or 2JZ with 5 or 6 speed manual transmission.

Finally got the transmission all apart. It has been a rough couple of weeks at work but finally got the time to work on it today. We got the rebuild kit for the transmission a couple of weeks ago as well as the replacement rear band and transmission filters. Ran into a bit of trouble today. Found two major problems. The rear servo has a crack all the way through the side wall which is probably causing the fluid pressure problem. I am not too worried about that one because it is a pretty easy part to get to. The other problem is the rear band rubbing on the planetary shaft housing. This is much more of a problem. It has actually ground a good portion of the housing away. Pictures soon and I am taking suggestions for places to find the repair parts. Regards

Aaron

1. Yahoo auction

2. Classic Car Nagoya
http://www.n-classiccar-jp.com/parts.html

3. http://nos2days.com/pc/
3. In English http://nos2days.com/pc/press/english.html

I was actually thinking of attending the event in April (Number 3).

How is your Japanese?

Hey ToyGuy

Thanks for the links. I cannot seem to find anything on Yahoo auctions Japan. The other Nostolgic Days seems like it would be a lot of fun. I am not sure if I will be able to go as we are in an exercise all the week prior. My Japanese isn't there at all. I may have someone that can get in contact with those people that can speak Japanese though. Any other suggestions?

Here are the pictures of the parts that are bad. If anyone knows where I can order them or have any a transmission laying around that they may be willing to strip for these parts let me know. One picture is of the rear band. I already have a replacement for that one. Let me know what you guys think I should do. Regards

Aaron

This is the part that caused all of the problems. As stated before I have a replacement for this already but it did all the damage to the above part.

I couldn't get a picture of the crack but this is the part that is cracked it is the rear servo

MX20 73 Toyota Corona Mark II Coupe (Red one)
Sorry for the lack of updates everyone... there hasn't been very much movement on either of the projects for a while. Last time i posted we had just finished tearing the transmission apart, diagnosed the problems and ordered the parts. Since neither my wife nor me have had much time to work on the transmission. We started the buildup of the transmission again and then hit a wall in our progress. About 80% into the rebuild a bolt snapped, so now we have to take the front transmission oil pump out to extract the bolt. We also are having some issues remembering where a couple of the parts go. We are in need of assistance. Does anyone have a breakdown of the A30 Transmission? Any help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

RX20 73 Toyota Corona Mark II coupe (White / Green one)
Removed the dash yesterday and installed rear speaker and installed the rear window panel again. I am still looking for a hood and deck lid for my car if I don't find anything in the next couple of months I am going to try and make a replacement hood and deck lid out of fiberglass I do a lot of fiberglass and metal work for my job so I think I can do it. If I do undertake the task of making the hood I will post it for anyone who is interested in either doing it themself or getting one made for them.

Thanks everyone for the interest.
Regards
Aaron

I just spent a bit of time searching and as best I can see, the Adelaide Hills Motor Restorers Club has a manual listed in their Library.

Perhaps a phone call could get you a couple of relevant scans?

http://www.communitywebs.org/AdelaideHi ... orersClub/

Click the "library" link (PDF) and under "Shop Manuals" they have
"Toyota Automatic Transmission A30" listed.

Thanks toyguy
I will try that. I am not sure if I will get any info from them or not. We can only hope you know? If anyone else has anything that they think may help let me know. I have a repair manual but cannot seem to find where the parts go in the manual.

Regards
Aaron

Macbrus:
Very nice!

TheUnstated:
What manual do you have?
Is it the transmission repair manual or the vehicle repair manual?
Is it a genuine Toyota item?

There is a bookstore locally that I can check if needed.

Hey that would be great. I basically just need a breakdown of the A30 Automatic Transmission. Anything that you think can help I would appreciate because I am kind of at a loss on what to do.

@Toyguy
I have both the Transmission repair manual and haynes and chilton vehicle repair manual. I believe that the transmission repair manual is genuine toyota but as I am at work right now I am not sure. I will take a picture of the manual that I have when I get home from work.

@Toyguy
The manual I have is a red book printed with the following text on the front
Toyota Automatic Transmission Repair Manual
A-30 Transmission
(3 Speed Toyoglide)

Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd.

On the back it has Toyota Service in a little square.

I cannot seem to get a good part breakdown of the transmission out of it.

If it is what I think it is, that is what I would have been looking for at the bookstore.

Thanks for the breakdowns. That is exactly what I needed. What does the front of your book look like, It looks like it is a lot better than ours and I would like to start looking for a copy for ourselves. I sent you a PM with my email address about the rocker moldings. Thanks again

@siamkraithat
I would love to see pictures of your car. I am always interested in other peoples MK IIs.

@Everyone else
I am headed down to Nagoya for a classic car rally down there as well as to go to the classic car Nagoya shop down there. I will try to get pictures and wish me luck in the search for parts for either of our two cars. The MX20 or the RX20. Thanks
