 Post subject: help please shed some light on a gto for me..

hi..
my friends dad has a galant gto 197ish sitting in his drive way and i might take it off his hands its a 2 litre with kinda roll back leather roof( just middle setion)
and was wondering if some one could shed some light on it for me as in how rear they are and where i could get parts for it in the uk??

that roll back leather roof would be a deal breaker for me, but it may not bother you?
shouldn't be more than 1/2 dozen of these cars left in the uk
sourcing mechanical parts is a non-issue, but body and trim are near unobtanium

parts definately are not easy to find for them, but there are quite a few knowledgable owners floating around. The cars are fairly rare.

yeah i kow i would perfer if the roof thing was not there but what can you doo.. thanks for the link... does anyone know what the roof is about ?/ i have not seen any pics of one wih it ..

def not factory. just make sure it didn't leak and wreak havoc with the interior

You could always weld in a new sheet of steel if the car is due for a repaint.

i am going to check th beast out on sunday .... prob is leaking to be honest by the standard of the rest of the car ... its such a schame could just let it sit there ... i will prob take it and get it welded as ben says ....


i will let you guys know and put up pics ..


i recon its worth the work such a cool shape !! 8)

Would have to see pictures first, I guess youve got to take what you can get when it comes to GTO's thier pretty rare now days.

I got a sunroof in mine, and from what I can tell its a big job to weld it up without using kilos of filler, also the hood lining sits flat on the underside of the roof so the underside has to be flat also.

I can help with any parts you may need as I have a few contacts, but shipping is a killer from NZ.

They can look real hot....

yes i got the car its in a hell of a state to be honest ... i i will need some help from everyone to find parts and what not!!!


first thing i will have to do is get the welder out !! haha :roll:
but hey thats what a project is all about !!!!
