Hey guys this is my AE82 Sedan Upgrade Project. I received the car 2 years ago, it is my first car. My father brought the car in 1987 brand new. The car came with a 1.6 8-valve Carb'd 4AC engine. I've been restoring the car and maintaining it. Exterior wise, I'am styling the car after the ae80-82 toyota sprinters. Rather than list all my mods, I'll just post the major ones.

So far this is what I put in performance wise.
Weber Carb 38/38 DGES
MSD Ignition
2.25" Exhaust

I plan to put in a high performance camshaft as well as upgrade the suspension as I use this car on the mountain passes.

I have the exact same steering wheel in one of my cars.

And can I ask, what was the purpose of swapping to the 3AC Tercel distributor? Your blog shows how, but not why?

The Tercel 3A Dizzy allows the use of a external ignition coil, where as with the 4AC Dizzy (which came with the car) comes with a internal ignition coil. I wanted to bolt on a MSD Blaster 2 coil because I wanted a more powerful spark and upgrade my ignition system, so I had to go with a Tercel 3A Dizzy.

Parts are somewhat easy to get, I can get replacement parts for my car @ at the local junkyard. Where I live theres a strong corolla community especially for AE8x that way I can get parts easily. However, I want JDM parts and possibly european. I especially like your front grill, unfortunately its almost impossible to get here in the United States.

ohhh..thats nice to hear....JDM parts and especially european parts are almost finishing up and getting rarer..hehe..its easier to look for an australian spec parts as they do share some sameness with JDM..lol..but looking at your car, i estimate its a 86-87 model..

I like your AE82 GT, I wish I had a 4AGE engine in my car. But with all the stuff done to my single cam engine, its still fun.

hehe..ae82gt ..thats yummy..especially the GT rubber spoiler..rare item eh..hehe...even the most i could get hold off here is the Foha spoiler..haiz ...a stockie 2a-u,3a-u or 4a-c,4a-u with weber is strong enough...without much compromise on fuel consumption side..try getting regrind camshafts..they do increase some horsies..roungly 5-6hp..

Only? I was expecting much more hp especially from a cam with with higher lift and intake/exhaust durations.

To really see gains from a bigger cam, you need the head work that goes with it...

Thats exactly what my mechanic advised me to do, port and polish the head before installing the cam. How much performance would I see?

Impossible to say exactly, but it's usually worth it.

becareful of too high lift camshafts..its makes your car irritatable to drive on the streets...i have a buddy who plonked hks camshafts into his 4age ae80...sweet on high revs but retarded idling on traffic..the best choice is a mild lift camshaft..sweet torque/horsepower around 3-5k revs...you can try adding an adjustable cam pulley..additional performance package could come from lighten flywheel, which i added to my 2e engine...help to shave a few seconds at traffic drag ...a port n polish is the best way to gain back the lost horsies from your old engine..even a simple overhaul with renew internal parts would make a standard engine purr nicely...i read in your blog that its using an auto..maybe a manual could help..hehe..unless i was missing some parts of your blog...

p.s, how is the weber performance on this ??? i was also thinking of adding weber to mine..but i worry bout drivability as i do drive in traffic...

MAYBE 10hp. It is a low compression, economy-minded engine. Instead of spending all this money on headwork, cam, and carb...how about just swapping in a small port 4A-GE and picking up 40hp?

Yeah I'am planning on getting a mild cam, nothing too crazy . The Weber is fantastic, the throttle response is even better than my '89 EFI Camry. With the Weber I dislike that I do lose drivability, the Weber has to be "warmed up" by revving @ idle. Fuel economy is affected i lose 5-10mpg compared to the stock carb...but its soo fun the Weber downdrafts sound mean as hell. A buddy of mine has motorcycle carbs in his 3AC/4AC, sounds really nice.

I have considered swapping in a 4age, however it seems like a complicated process, I was quoted that it would be over $1000+ to do a complete conversion, with labor and everything. In the short term it makes more sense to me just to build on the 4AC for the time being, a 4AGE might be going in, in the future.
