Hey I just recently joined up but have owned several JNC's in the past( 2 72 510's a wagon and a 2dr I bought new as my first new car and a couple 70's Toyota trucks) and still drive a 91 Toyota 4X4 xtracab V6 I bought new in November 1990 but my daily driver is a 91 Civic Si hatch that has a turbocharged single cam makes about 300whp and still gets 35mpg on the interstate.
I am a UPS driver and stumbled across an apparently non running powder blue Opel/Buick or Buick /Opel coupe that is just sitting in a yard on my route I was going to see if its for sale and was wondering what to look for if it is available, rust and the like. I live in SW Washington so its pretty damp here and I have no experiance with them so I am kind of flying blind and could use some help
Thanks Steve

I'm not much help as far as what to look for, but I would check for rust. mine had it everywhere. good luck to you, and just so you know, I'm kinda halfway keeping an eye open for one...

look at the rockers, trunk floor where the tire is, and the engine bay under the hood hinge area...also around the side mirrors if it is the deluxe with the chrome window trim around the doors and side glass... the area around the tail lights and of course the floor boards... if you get it and need a few parts i might have them here in salem. i have a parts car i am using to restore my 79 coupe .
here are the ones i am working on...

I decided to hang onto the bug through the winter, I might end up looking for something in the spring. Just wasn't sure I wanted to give up my only daily driver right before winter not knowing what other issues I could be getting into. At least I know the bug's problems. Please understand I don't mean any offense to your friend, just wanted winter to be as easy as possible. To brodad: I remember my trunk was all rusted, you might want to check there too, where the spare tire goes.

Mechanically, they run the G161z - tough, strong little engine capable of serious mods, serious power, and serious abuse. Simple to rebuild and keep running too. Not sure why Isuzu has a bad rep in america, down here in Aus their known as being unbreakable.

If the engine is totally screwed, you can bolt in a G180 or a G200 [1.8 and 2L] out of an Isuzu Pick Up or early Isuzu Trooper.

The 4ZC1, 4ZD1 and 4ZE1 [2L, 2.3 and 2.6] out of the later P'up, Impulse and Troopers also go in with very simple mods [swap engine mounts, minor trim to the firewall].

Gearbox's, any Isuzu RWD [4 or 5spd] from any of the above
listed cars bolts onto the back of the engine. Depending on which engine you run [lets assume its a G series] it should also bolt directly to the standard xmember. If however its a later hydraulic clutch box youll need to sort that bit out. Again, not hard.

Here are mine [one Coupe, one sedan]
