I almost forgot about this, and after I post this message, it might be time to request that this thread be moved to the General Discussion section. How could adult beverages be related to the topic of Japanese nostalgic cars you ask... Well, read on.

The Toyota 2000GT was put on a Asics Onitsuka Tiger shoe, as discussed in the blog:

But the Isuzu 117 Coupe was put onto a Shochu bottle:

This is last year's commemorative bottle. This company is called Kiyose, and for at least two years, they have done commemorative bottle labels for classic Japanese cars. But they are all limited edition, and all of the 117 Coupe stuff has been removed from their website, because that was last year's bottle, and they were long ago sold out. I have images saved on my computer for several different label designs on assorted products that look like preserves and other gift basket type items. One has a very clear orange coupe with a couple and their pet dog posed in front of it, but showing much more of the car than the wedding party image shown on the only image I could find remaining on the internet.

This year, their chosen car was the Subaru 360:



If the pattern for this year is the same, if someone could find the preserves label, the car should be much more prominent.

This little blog entry explains that there is a trend in Japan for making Shochu out of various vegetables (carrots, pumpkin, wasabi) in order to make use of substandard vegetables. In the US, that would be animal feed, but Japanese expectation of perfection in food products means that their substandard is our Grade A. Kiyose is known for carrots, and in 2007, they started making Shochu from carrots under the above mentioned name, which means "The town where my dear lives". Once they figured out how to get the carrot taste filtered out, the fruity flavor that was left was really appealing to the ladies. The first production was 2007, with the label posted earlier that has the pickup truck on it. Part of their genius seems to be the nostalgic label and limited production run, because they sold out of the first production run of 3000 bottles by the end of October 2007.

The various labels on the assortment of products subtract more of the layers of people from in front of the car.

I'm doing really well at finding these images all of a sudden. This is the other label:

It subtracts the wedding party and photographers, some of the background, and leaves the young gir hugging the young man and the little dog. So that one shows most of the 117 Coupe.

That seems to be carrot jam.

This was a commissioned work by artist Takashi Ohta with a studio name of "Paper Museum".
There is mention that the 117 Coupe was included as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the car.

I was surprised to see that it was a 3d photo of paper cutout pieces. It has a style that is sort of like wood block prints (like the many views of Mt. Fuji and all the samurai portraits). Very flat with the overlap of one thing over another as the main way of showing depth. But the little figures have undetailed faces, almost like the many photos with the face blurred. But more like anonymous so that the viewer feels they can become character pictured.
The various compositions with different figures and the subtraction that revealed more of the car sort of indicated it was a computer image. Which would be impressive to capture a traditional illustration style with computer rendering.
Then the off angle photo shows it is actually cut out pieces arranged in a scene.

This artist, Ota Takashi, is apparently really famous for car related art in Japan, and this is sort of like hiring one of the really famous car illustrators that does work for R&T, MT, or C&D magazines.

love asahi, but can't appreciate asahi kuro. But what's really good everyonce in a while is asahi select. Definitely my favorite beer right now. Another good japanese beer, but expensive, is yebisu. Very nice quality with a bad ass logo
