Good news! The film was shown at the Toronto Film Festival this week! 8)

Still no official US release date though... :?

Quote:
The movie, Mao's Last Dancer, will be first premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival between September 10th and 14th of 2009 as a Special Presentation film. It will then be followed with four gala premiers in Australia to benefit the Australian Ballet and the Bionic Ear Institute, which are the two non-profit organizations that Li supports and is involved with. The premier dates are: Sydney on September 21st, Melbourne on the 23rd, Adelaide on the 24th and Brisbane on the 25th.

In Australia, Village Roadshow, Hoyts, as well as other independent cinemas such as Palace and Dendy, will exhibit the film. The official release in Australia and New Zealand is Oct 1st. We hope you will enjoy watching the film as much as reading Li’s inspirational book. The international release of the movie is work-in-progress at this stage, but we will keep you updated.

If they do release it in the US it might be just an limited release for indie theaters.

I'm sure it will be indie only. Fortunately I have several good indie theaters near me. 8)

I wouldn't expect anything approaching wide release unless it generates some Oscar buzz. If it does, you'll see it in regular theaters around Oscar time.

Had the fanfare here in Melb earlier in the week..... and no mention of the car- at least they could have had the VIP's arriving in one....
I chuckle at "first runner-up" comment- reminds me of a beauty pageant...

Since I haven't been able to update this thread with a movie release date, I thought I'd update the car's progress... :P

Here's how it looked at the shoot...

Two days later with my suspension and wheels back on...

Two weeks later after another round of changes...

Six months later, ouch...

Got it out of "paint jail" last week and here's how it sits now...

Glad to hear it. As much as they filmed of it, I'd hate it if it got cut out of the movie.

It's in all the mainstream cinemas here - almost one in every suburb.....
I plan to go see it, so will let you know how much of it is in there.
