 Post subject: help please on my te21

hey guys im new to this forum but so far it seems to be the only forum i can find that i can ask a ? to some guys who know what they are talking about and get a response. i have a 1974 te21 rally car i want to put a new motor in it i want to stay carbuerated and something that will go in fairly easy ne suggestions thanks

That would seem logical and a perfect option. You could try and source a 2TG but I gather they are hard to come by in the US.

And a mildly worked 2T is about even with a stock 2TG. Bear in mind that anything you get will likely require a rebuild, and 2TG's can start getting expensive due to poor part availability.

But my question would be, are you limited in engine selection by class eligibility rules?

If not, a 4AGE is a common swap in. I honestly would think hard before I went away from a 2T or 3T though.

thanks for your response and i am not limited to size in my class and i will look into those options one other motor i was looking at but dont know how difficult to make it fit is a 22r any suggestions or should i stick with one of the others

Well it's been done

You would need to modify your crossmember as you can't bolt in a crossmember from something else with a 22R (too wide). At least the induction is on the opposite side to your master cylinder so you should have room.

Some of these guys are on 3TCgarage.com I would suggest you have a look through the projects threads for an idea of complexity.

If you really are set on a R series and want to stay carb'd. Might I suggest the 20R-22R hybrid motor. The volumetric effeciency of the 20R head is way better than that of the 22R. If I remember correctly the 20R has around a 70-75% cylinder fill vs the 22R which is sitting around 50%. But the 22R has a bigger bore and stroke so that bumps you up from 2.2L to 2.4L. But the 2 and 3TC do have the benefit of being Hemi heads.

Just build a 3tc, make it a high compression 89mm block and if you keep it N/A just shot peen and ARP the stock rods. Get a good set of pistons and balance the rotating assembly. Get a good cam and put a basic port on the head. You should get anywhere from 150-200hp with this depending on your compression ratio and carb setup. I've seen basic .40 over motors run very hard in N/A form, and 3T's love compression and cams. The head moves alot of air so you just need to let the motor catch up to it's potential.
