Spent the last 6 months tearing my car down to a bare shell and rebuilding it.

im loving the wheels. How do the rear wheels tuck?

Nice looking header, does anyone make them or is it a custom setup?

I was also curious, did you ever get electron distributors for the 4g3x engine there?

I'm already missing your car...

The rear wheels, 14x8 Zero offset with the 225/60/r14 tires stick about 1 1/4" from the rear fenders, but that's just rubber sticking out, the lip of the rim is inline with the fender as with the front 14x6.5. Tires are old and thus unsafe to really drive hard with. So I have the Mag. Minilites back on for now, I plan to use the Volks with a bit of a smaller staggered fitment, maybe 205 or 195/60 at back so it'd all be tucked in perfectly.

The header was custom fabricated.

And as for the electronic distro... I remember seeing a few people who claim to have one that were from 4G3x... but I doubt it, even the 4th gen Lancer sold here until 1993 had points type. I've heard one from other series of engines might fit but have not had time to check... supposedly 4G63?? IDK.

Have not looked into electronic distro's myself... Probably because I've already ordered an MSD (I got a Digital 6 to experiment with, although a 6AL2 would have been a safer bet) so the distro will just be left to trigger the MSD unit. I have a buddy who actually used a Distro from a Toyota 4K engine to trigger his MSD setup. Then maybe later if I get tired from setting points (I doubt though since I find that highly nostalgic) I'll go get a Pertonix kit for the orig distro.

It's been a while since I've posted here... A few updates on the car...

Got a couple of new goodies installed...

Greened out the Volk Racing wheels with 185/55/r14 Bridgestone Potenza tires


MSD Digital 6 ignition


Autometer Phantom Tach- cause the stock tach is not compatible with the MSD


Stinger exhaust


Thermal wrapped the headers, and installed an oil catch tank (you can see the little MSD E-core coil too)


plus more to come coz iv'e got some new carbies to play with (not yet installed)


And a bunch more parts in shipping, and parts to hook up an oil cooler in the garage already

Here's an update.. Not much done lately because I'm busy at work. But managed to get another set of wheels... Now Rocking the ART Slimlines with 195/50/ZR15 Federal 595's.

I really prefer the look with the Volk mesh... but looking at possible motorsports use and even our regular playing around in the mountains 15's are really more practical because of the choices of high performance tires available.. Finding the same for the 14 inch Volks is very hard over here.

GOLD!!!!!!!!! with silver lip. Would really bring those out, although frankly I like em as is. I dont really like darker spokes on those wheels. Any better pics of the cage? I wouldnt mind caging my car, these things aren't exactly the pinnacle of safety lol.

Yeah! In terms of safety these are ok for when they were stock but when you start modifying them at least a half cage should be necessary. Preserves the body from warping too. although if I were to build a more hard core car I'd do a full D1 style weld in cage. But for this and most street cars a bolt in cage is enough.

The cage in my car is based off the roll bar in the original Safari Rally car. I managed to obtain a copy of the installation manual of it. If you want a copy PM me your email and I'll send you the .pdf

I was just going to go with the orig safari bar design which is 3 pt. Basically a roll hoop and a single down bar to the back in the center. The design is actually ingenious. The hoop is right on top of a chassis crossmember so it forms a nice solid O to keep the car from crushing down on the roof should it roll. The down bar in the middle does not intrude on passenger space so you won't loose any function of the back seats!!

However for the purpose of reinforcing the existing chassis it does not do much so we added a diagonal to add more stiffness and triangulate and a horizontal bar behind the drivers seat as a harness bar for my 3 inch race harness. The bottom bracket bolts to the floor and uses the seatbelt pin to secure the main roll hoop. Added some 'ears' so that the roll bar also ties into the seatbelt anchor pins on the B-pillars, effectively reinforcing the door posts.

The rear shelf by the rear windshield in reinforced by a large quarter inch think plate- Actually the design called for a lesser thickness but it's not easily available- just cut a bunch of holes to lighten it up!

Then added the side bars to tie into the front wheel wells which the the struts ride on and the struts are reinforced by the strut bar. Copied the design from a Cusco cage for an AE86.

Over all it's very solid.
