I like reading this forum, so I figure I should contribute.

My current 510 has been constantly evolving, so here's a look back on where it's been.

Bought in 2003 on eBay I flew from Vancouver BC to Oakland CA to pick this up. Very tired (burnt exhaust valve) hot L16, a bunch of good suspension bits, and the usual run of new old car problems.

Image

Image

I started aquiring bits and by new years 2005 it was painted Honda (oops!) Championship white -- the greatest of all whites, and adorned with some JDM kit.

Image

Image

Image

Image

What's next to do but go racing? Autocrossing and Hillcilmbing mostly -- the car looked and handled great but was always very slow in a straight line.

Image

Image

Finally got the car Megasquirt EFI equipped in summer 2006, and the built L18 (block was from a Datsun 610 stage rally car my father built in 1980) mill was finally in the car that winter (latest dyno was @ 121whp), and I moved to California for work.

Image

How about we get a little more serious?

Shake down track day

Image

Install 8 pt cage

Image

Image

Looking quite a bit more serious -- 195/45-15s on 15x6 Panasports being traded in for 195/60-14 RT-615s on 14x6.5 RS-8s (two sets).

Image

Some more suspension tricks and armor down below.

Image

Can't forget the decals!

Image

With newly installed decals, I took the car to Targa Newfoundland and back. We managed to be the first 510 to ever finish the rally, ended up 9th overall, 2nd in class!

Now my car whiles away its days going to the occasional hillclimb, trackday and weekend jaunt. Don't know what's next for it but I the next logical step involves more HP. :)

Hillclimbing is high stakes!

Offroading (!) in Downieville CA (friends neglected to tell me our camping location was off a dirt road). Wish I still had my mudflaps on here!

Your Laguna Seca special exhaust cracked me up. I've only been out to the track once, but I saw all kinds of crazy exhaust systems to try and comply with the regs there.

What does it say in your "Skyline" heart on the C-pillar?

Mean lookin' 510. Dammit... might just have to get me one of those. :)

Thanks for the comments guys. It says "Gillian" in the heart -- my long time girlfriend/best friend/car sponsor who has been instrumental in getting the car where it is now. She even has done a couple 400-600 mile drives in it with me (including the offroadng) this summer through the ultra hot central valley -- no radio, no sound deadening, no AC and fixed back race seats with 4 points. <3 indeed.

Forgot to post an interior pic:

Yeah, bl000t is my youtube account :) That was shot the day I ate up my 1st (of 2 wrecked) DAMB cam. Overall, HTM is a fun, if high-risk track. You're in SoCal, right Ted, have you driven it?

wow...so deep the steering wheel~!! but i like it.. :D

It's a 90mm dish Sparco (with a Momo horn button
). I find it really helps with my seating position. I've also lowered the steering column 5/8"/15mm or so. Works really well for me.

Dj_Squelch -- Thanks man -- if you want a full-res version of any of them let me know.

Awesome livery. What does LTM-W stand for? Love the PMC-S font.

Welcome to JNC!

My god...that is one AWESOME 510 four door! I hope my 510 will sound as cool as yours. May I ask what type of ignition setup (wires, plugs, dizzy...etc) you have?

I still like the fact that he bought a 510 in Oakland, Ca which uses the 510 telephone area code.

Thanks for the nice words guys. I don't read this forum too often, so sorry about the late replies!

Sadly, not much has been done to my car lately, aside from tracking it. I swapped my 4.375 R180 Quaife (for sale!) for a 4.11 R160 Suby LSD, and took care of a couple of little things. Trying to figure out a funny computer reset problem with my Megasquirt at the moment, fortunatley it doesn't happen at WOT so its kind of a non-issue. :)

Ben: LTMW = Loose Tools Motorsports (West) my family's racing nom de plume. Here's the other family Datsun -- a 240Z that races in VARAC vintage events back east. http://www.vimeo.com/5372011 The stickers are off my car until I do another big event with it.

Not only did I buy the car in Oakland, it was bought new there too. Now it lives across the bay.

tunernutcase: Ignition: wires are some blue ones I bought from summit and crimped together myself. Dizzy is single points with a Pertronix Ignitor and an MSD 6A. Plugs are good old fashion Bosch B6ES's. I have been wanted to move to an EDIS system run by my Megasquirt, but I am hankering for a different motor and don't want to put more effort into the L anymore. If you want to see the car in person, stop by the GGLC autocross next Saturday at Great America in Santa Clara.

I went back to Laguna this summer -- much much more fun in the dry, and on V710s. Turns out that $600 in tires can make up for $100k in car (during one session I did away with a 997 Turbo with a not so skilled driver). Here's a cool pic that the track photog snapped:

Love the history of the car. The last pic is totally rad.

I too bought my very first 510 in high school, a 70 2dr from a lady in Oakland for $800 (back around 1980), it was white, and lived through the stock L16 being rebuilt with a mild cam, and Weber DGV, Allison electronic ignition, 200sx dogleg 5sp w/roadster clutch, then when the L16 died (hole in the piston), I got an L18 SSS engine with twin su's (bell-tops). I drove that car for over 10 years, then it got rear-ended and totalled. I stripped the car and sold the eng. and trans. Wish that it never got wrecked, I'd probably still would have the car.

V710s rock. I'm hoping to get a set of 225/50/14s for the roadster this winter and then it will stick very well. The SF chapter of the PCA got ticked at me for running one of there autoXs and asked me not to come back. It wasn't because I made a fool of myself in some way but because I finished 13th of 133 cars and beat all the GT3s at the event. Spanking Porsches with Datsuns rocks. I'd love to run the Datsun/Porsche challenge in Las Vegas some time, but its too far of a haul without a truck and trailer.

The car looks good, hopefully I will see it at the track sometime.

Will
