My project has been ongoing for a while. I bought this car with the intentions of slightly improving it. After all, it had a pleasant looking exterior and the inside was OK. However, after I began to explore deeper, I noticed it was a cosmetic cover up and needed some serious attention to do justice to the project.

Image

Upon pulling up the carpet, I couldn't help but notice the weakness in the passenger side floor pan and the degree of rust along the door sill.

Image

This process was repeated as I pulled off the front fenders

Image

Nice rust along the outer sill and door jamb

Image

The right side wheel well had its share of rust

Image

And the bulkhead and roof rails had their problems too.

What really got to me was the roof rails. When I pulled off the headliner and looked around, I noticed the sunlight was peeking through the roof rails. They were neatly covered up with silicone and nice white paint. Here's what it looked like after that coverup was removed

Image

Under the hood needed some metal work too

Image

Luckily, I found a new battery tray from Great Britian. :)

All the metal work has been completed, the car has since been primed and the new paint has begun to be cut in. I'll show you some pics of the progress.

Here's the new metal for the floor and sill

The roof rails repaired and the roof properly lifted

Beautiful work! I'm glad to see some Honda projects undertaken with such care. Where are you located? Any chance we'll get to see this thing in person at a car show someday?

Thanks for the kind words. I'll try to make Carlisle in 2010. I'm in S. NJ.

I didn't ever notice they were blue before. Fantastic job, though.

Yeah, the stock blue gauges are sweet. Is the Civic the only car that's ever had that? I can't recall ever seeing that anywhere else.

Had this set of rims less the tires shipped to me from the west coast. They'll have to be cleaned up and refinished to match the ones in the 78 Honda accessory catalog.

After the rims are refinished, I have 4 NOS hubcaps waiting to get mounted

to be continued ...

While the rear skirt is awaiting further cosmetic work - I refinished some pretty neat factory option overhead speakers that are designed to attach to the lip of the roof at each rear corner.
