Yeah, I've tried to fight the battle against over usage of CGI, but it's a losing battle... :P

I'll watch it. I'm more excited about the Red Dawn remake coming up next year though!

Looks interesting...

Any word if it be period-correct to the early 80s, or set in current times?

Its like we are a bunch of grumpy old men.... we drive old cars, like traditional film movies etc...... lol. I still have not watched Spiderman 2 or 3 because of how crappy the CGI was in the first one. I would rather have seen him dangling from cables then cgied buildings!

And yes.....you may be the only one.. heavy CGI and directed by the king of dissapointment M. Night Shamalamadingdong. No thanks :td:

CGI: 100x the action but 1/10 of the impact.

...Yeah. I've often wondered when the novelty of making something that looks almost as good as real life, but just a bit shittier and faker, would wear off.

It used to be that cartoons were popular BECAUSE they allowed artistic expression to be injected into a story, rather than "let's see how real this can look"...

I always thought the original Star Wars was much less jarring with its cheap ass special effects, before it got Effed with...

Well, I'm hoping if he doesn't stray too far from the source material, it won't be a disappointment. We'll see... :P

Not sure if it's based during the cold war still or not. I've heard it's the Russians and Chinese this time instead of the Cubans, so I am not sure. Youd think if it took place in the same cold war time period, they'd keep the Cubans in the mix.

I found the og theatrical release edition of IV,V, and VI in the $5 bin at walmart the other day. Couldn't beleive it, scooped em all up just as quick as I saw them. The "digitally remastered" versions just pissed me off. Only semi good thing about them was the almost worthless scene that they insterted into IV where Han is talking to Jaba at the Mos Eisley dock before leaving with luke and obi wan.

The fully cg and very very awkward "music video" scene at Jaba's club that was thrown into VI almost made me embarrassed to be a fan, and for some reason the stop motion Bantha's and Tauntaun's were more beleivable then the corny 1995 cg versions. '70s star wars cuts ftw!!

Man most of you guys don't have a clue! This is based of a children's animated television series on Nickelodeon. To accurately bring this to live action, you would need a crazy amount of CG to do it.

For all you CG haters, how could you bring Transformers to the big screen without CG?

Sorry I'm biased, I work at an animation studio and yes I AM excited to see this!

Or spend some money and build some sets? :P

I totally understand the need to use CGI to make the fire, water, and earth move the way it should. But I'll bet 95% of the movie is shot on green screen. Which isn't totally necessary, it's just cheaper.

Oh don't get me wrong, I dont mind cg at all, and am actually pretty excited about this movie. I'm more a fan of mixed live prop/cg (think Guillermo Del Toro style, like Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth) but there's some stuff that would be too expensive, and down right cheesy if done any other way then heavy cgi, like this movie and transformers for example.

Speaking of Avatar, anybody see the trailer for "Avatar" (not the last airbender) on Apple? Looks pretty sick. He's been wanting to make the movie since the '80s I guess and has been working on the script and waiting to be in a position to be able to make it since then. Looks good. Read the synopsis before watching the trailer or you might get confused.

I'm feeling more and more like a misfit around here.I get excited about new cars (no,I won't get into how much I loved the RX450h I drove on wednesday,I opened a big enough can of worms with the IS-F) and I love modern movie technology! Thankfully I'm quite the Luddite when it comes to music.I consider any band or artist that made their debut after 1979 "new" music...
