This is my new old car. It is a 1973 Toyota Corona Mark II Coupe Hardtop it is totally JDM RHD. It is in pretty good condition considering its age but it does have a little bit of rust here and there. It has a Toyota 6R Motor and a 4 Speed Manual Transmission. I am looking at the possibilities of an engine swap while I am rebuilding the original. I am considering the options but not sure of the best way to go. I am looking for a new hood, grill and tail lights for it, as well as fender flares with some old school rims. Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking

Aaron

Such a gorgeous car. I'm jealous.

More pictures! :mrgreen: And it definitely needs some nice wheels and a drop. Mmm.

I'm glad you made it here. I'm the one who were talking to you in the parking lot and mentioned to you about this site. Anyway...hit me up this weekend if you still want some old school wheels, I have some lead. Have you checked Restored.jp for the hood? Anyway, did it pass the JCI already?

PM me if you have any questions. 18RG or 2T will be the easiest transplant for old school engine....you will need some engine mount fab for others probably.

Just thought that I would give an update on the progress of the Mark II. Finally got it to pass JCI which here in Japan is the Japanese Compulsory Insurance required by Japan to have. It is pretty strict as far as standards. I am currently in the process of dismantling the car and inspecting for rust. I will be doing little things here and there while I get rid of the rust. Currently have the Rear Bumper, Toyopet emblem, Chrome trim, taillight grille and key surround crown series emblem off of the car. Tomorrow I will Hopefully be taking the Corona Mark II Badges, front bumper and chrome trim off before sanding and priming those spots. I am not really concerned right now about the looks. I am more worried about stopping the rust from continuing. I will also be possibly changing the front brake rotors and replacing the instrument light bulbs. I am currently looking for old school rims and fender flares for it. I am still in the market for spare parts for it such as the hood, grille and tail lights. I will take pictures and update tomorrow when it is light outside.

Here are some current pictures of the car. I will be starting to sand and get rid of as much rust as possible today. Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me. I know that the hood is too far gone to save so I need to get a new hood.

Deck lid has a little rust but shouldn't be too hard to clean up

Thanks for the interest. There is not too much new right now. Took care of most of the rust on the outside... right now those spots are still primered. Didn't get much time to work on it this weekend, installed an underdash stereo and flushed the radiator this weekend. I will try to get some pictures up this week sometime.

@theunstated

yea i know how difficult to fit a stereo in MarkII... the provided space in the dashboard is not sufficient to accommodate the current model of stereos. i have installed it in glove box :-)

do let us update the moment you make any progress.

regards
