it's... *checking the documents*... definately dark-blue!
the car was imported into Russia back in 1979!
It belonged to a famous marine captain and he got a special permission to buy a car in Japan (a rare exception in that times).
I can only imagine how many girls he managed to seduce in it : domestic USSR cars (which were also NOT really affordable things during the commies) could hardly compete to Toyota flagman model, and the guy must have felt like a King...

Unfortunately, his grandson didn't value the car much, and the engine has been fed with all kinds of undecent liquids.
So, when we got the car eventually in late 2007, the engine was unrestorable. I tried to get another authenic engine (2,6L) in Japan, but couldn't find a reliable one.

So, finally I decided to abandon an idea to restore A CROWN (I'm still looking for MS-75 coupe version) and decided to make a showcar out of it. Thus, a 1JZ GTE, which we ripped of Toyota Chaser Tourer V TRD edition, was implanted and the car exteriour was completely renovated.

So, now we call it a "crown" only in some official cases, and the car is known in Vladivostok as "Jazzdevil".

Hopefully, you'll understand - I always try to keep a car as original as it's only possible. Such dramatic changes are made only in outstanding cases (actually, it's the only case we don't use an original engine)

Great story, and I understand your situation. Still, that thing must be a much nicer drive than with the original 4M.

Thanks.

As you can see, all cars were marked with numbered labels (1-30)

While our compere was making an introduction for each car, a girl with the big exclamation point sign was standing next to the car being introduced thus marking it for the public's understanding.
