Hello Lancer guys. I run into this picture a few nights ago and now i cant stop looking at it. What is the widest wheel i could use on an early model Colt or Lancer 71-77. What do you guys think?
She looks soo hot... are those 15's

depends on year and model
depends on offset
depends on tire size

the car pictured (ht) has a bit more elbow room than the sedan
and the later colts and lancers have even less elbow room than the earlier cars

And that isn't a Lancer, it's a GTO dude

Early LA-LC Lancers struggle with anything more than 7s. A guy in NZ has some 14x6.5s on his and he had to massage the guards, and their offset isn't 0 or negative.

The Celeste, which is almost a transition between the Lancer and the GTO pictured, can take big wheels. I had black 8" shells mocked up under mine with heaps of room to spare both front and back. Reckon 9s would fit easy in the rear.

This is one of the pics I took, just for interests sake

a +13 offset in 14x6.5 works good on a lancer. I think you can get away with a 0 offset 6inch wheel with 60 series tires. I had a issue with 70 series tires on some old appliance mesh with my lancer. I bent both of the lower front fenders up when turning and backing up  Tee biggest porblem with trying to fit offset on a lancer is the front lower portion of the fender. I figure with a lower profile tire you can get away with more offset.

Thanks all. good info guys. i will try out the MKII on my starlet and see how they will look on the lancer. we are looking at 14 inch wheel to use on the car because there are more of that size available today. But what about other parts for like brake pads and brake shoe? are they interchangeable between the early colts and lancers?

You're right bro. That's a 1st gen Galant. :D

er, that doesn't narrow it down enough as different models were sold different years and different badging and in different parts of the world

I think what he meant is the answer is different for a '71 than it is for a '77. He knows his stuff, so if you tell us exactly what year and model yours is, it would help. :tu:

I missposted yesterday, but you get the idea on the lancers. A galant will have different fitment, but still similar. 74+ galants you can fit quite a bit more wheel in.

im thinking i can use these combo of 14x6.5 0 offset with 195/45/14 and then lower the 2 inches. could this work guys?

Just so it's clear, for the US markets, the models break out like this,

71'-73' Colt (Gallant)
74'-76' Colt (Gallant)
77'-79' Colt (Lancer)
77'-80' Arrow (Celeste)

Each will take a slightly different combo to fit without rubbing. City has stated a combo that works on a 77'-79'. I have 15x6.5 +15 with 195/50-15 on my 74'-76' Wagon. I originally had 205/60-15 on the same rims and had rubbing issues. There is very little that will interchange between the years, except for mechanical parts. Lots of interchange there. Why couldn't we have gotten the GTO's?
